I just found this while searching for something else...

http://www.belt-buckle-knife.com/

It's definitely an interesting piece. The knife itself looks to be of lower quality, but the knife is not the main feature, really. The owner/designer has certainly got the motion down pat (check the video). The knife moves like a part of his hand. I wouldn't recommend the stabbing the guy behind your shoulder trick, but the access/open/close certainly has no wasted motion.

Check the speed at which he accesses and opens the knife. Now, imagine putting that buckle design together with an assisted opener. heh, heh. Now you got some fast opening!

$110-$185?!?! For 440C? No thanks. Seriously though, is this some kind of joke? It looks kinda like one of those Chinese Spyderco Ripoffs, besides having a "linear locking system"...

Like I said, I think the knife is not what you are paying for. The basic model is $65, and he sells replacement knives starting at $25. So the design is what you're paying for. You must be looking at the custom engraved stuff. It's not my cup of tea, but it's certainly high quality engraving, if that's what you're into .

Wow. Whaz up? Is this guy Emerson in drag? This knife and web page is an insult :barf: to the fine custom and production makers & ultimately to the end users.

Ron, I think you should really read up a bit more on cutlery steels. 440C is a good cutlery steel. I know its probably not up to deanimation jobs but I would say for well over 90% of us its good enough.

I just did, that kinda made me to chage my mind, just had some personal bad experience with stanley knife that had this steel

hummmm, I found this pretty intersting. Who's getting one, I want a review. :)

I might be able to get one when I get my tax return

Yes, i remember I've seen this kind of stuff before. Interesting, but not enough to make me actually want one...

440C - probabably the most common stainless used by custom makers over the last four decades.

it looks like it opens with a thumbstud. Not much to drool over there. The only difference is the "holster" connects right to the front of your belt. The knife is held to the holster with a magnet which doesn't exactly inspire confidence to me.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention. Belt buckle knives were popular in the 1970's and 1980's. Most of them disappeared because they became illegal in so many places. Take care.

One of the best belt buckle knives made is made by Bowen

Bowen Belt Buckle Knife

It even has a bottle opener. :D

Bowen sucks, you have to undo the belt, thus your knife is in hand and your pants are falling down your ass.

Gerber made a nice one in the seventies. Like this one it was a two piece job. However, you rotated the knife open while on the belt and then it came off open in your hand. I believe it was for right handed use and came in different styles. The ones I've seen have been wood, slightly dressy, but you'd never know it was a knife.

Try wearin' pants that fit, and for a knife that sucks how do you explain the fact that they're still in business?

Hey Guys...

Have you ever seen so much Jibber Jabber in your life..
This one I like.

quote

"But, be warned, these prices are not going to be around forever. Greg can hardly keep up as it is. Demand is pushing him to work long days and he still is having a hard time keeping up. "

All those late nights faxing and calling Tiawan. All those late night unpacking crates of cheap imported crap..

Pheeew!

I'm getting tired just thinking about it...

Grab'm now before they go up to 75 Bucks!

ttyle

Eric....

I have no dought that he's selling tons of them.Selling a knife to us knife guys is hard.Selling to the masses is easy.

I have a friend who's sole job is selling junk at gun/outdoor shows. The amount he makes is unreal. His table is 5 guys deep, while the knife dealers with good stuff gets a few tire kickers and a couple sales here and there.Knives he gets for less then a buck go for 6-8 bucks and he sells hundreds a show.

Something like this with that type of advertising may not play to the discriminating knife guy ( who make up less then 1 % of knife buyers),but it works very well on enough folks to sell a ton of them.
