Your Lightest & Heaviest Knife - Folders

Heaviest: Strider/TAD AR
Lightest: Jason Clark carbon tanto

Don't have the weighs - just going by my recollection of how my pocket felt when I was like, "Gee, that's heavy/light"😏

This topic made me think of what the modifications I've done to some of my knives might have done to the weight. So, carrying my PM2 today, I looked up the stats and then weighed mine on a mail scale.

It started out life:

Digicamo satin S30V at 3.75oz according to BHQ.

Currently:

Burlap micarta scales, black screws, titanium MXG clip, titanium lanyard tube : 3.45oz. In comparing it to a friends S110V PM2, it was actually a noticeable difference.

Not having weighed his PM2, yet having a noticeable feel difference, is there a weight difference from one steel type/composition to another. I'm guessing even the sprint runs are not "weighed" when the stats are listed, but go off the standard model info.

So, I looked at a lot of PM2 stats at BHQ, and my findings were odd.

I know for example, that the blade shape/grind definitely affects the weight. The tanto PM2 is 4.2 oz vs 3.75.

All the G-10 PM2's (standard blade) were listed at 3.75oz, except the Maxamet, which was 3.8.
The micarta/cru-wear PM2 was 4.00. I would think the micarta would be lighter, but I guess that depends on the type of micarta, this being canvas.

Interesting factoids for me at least. I doubt on a knife blade steel composition makes much difference, but I just have to wonder.
