I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say something to the effect of "That Spyderco knife would be perfect if it just had a Micarta handle" Or something along the line of " If that Spyderco Knife had A compression lock it would be my absolute perfect Spyderco folder".

I myself have said on a couple of occasions that if my big C-44 Dyad had a lanyard hole and a carbide Glassbreaker like the one on the Spyderco Assist I model it would be my totally perfect Spyderco knife.

Almost all of us Spyderco fans at one time or another have encountered a Spyderco knife that if given a couple of modifications it would be your dream EDC folder. But now I am not only confining this idea to folders because I am working on 2 modifications for a couple of Spyderco fixed blades I have that I adore so much. So tell me and the other Spyder-brethren here what changes you would make to a Spyderco knife that you really like in a Special way. What would you have Spyderco do differently with one or more of your Special Spyders?

Major changes on Spyderco Police.

G-10, ball-bearing lock, mirror-finish 5 inch blade.

G10 HANDLED FLAT GROUND VG-10 POLICE WITH MICARTA HANDLES, DEEP CARRY WIRE CLIP, TIP UP WITH WAVE OPENER. That' d be just about perfect.

How interesting.

This evening, as I tucked my Chinook II into my waistband for my evening bike ride to work, I thought about the "perfection" of this knife.

Everything else I own, whether knife, gun, car or whatever, I look at it and analyze it and imagine in what ways I could change it and make it perfect.

When I got my Chinook II, I did the same thing, except, I couldn't find anything about it that needed changing or improvement.

I have owned a lot of knives.
I have made knives.
I have designed and commissioned custom knives.
I have written magazine articles for international magazines on knives.

On the basis of the hours of thought and reflection I have put into knives, I now think I know a little about knives.

With that said, I declare the Spyderco Chinook II hollow-ground knife the perfect knife.

I don't make a joke here.

I see not one tiny little detail that I could change that could possibly improve this knife as a general field knife, light camp knife, and folding self-defense knife.

I consider it an act of collaborative genius.

If the reader has not held a Chinook II and studied it for an hour or so, he cannot possibly appreciate the absolute perfection of this knife, especially as a self-defense knife.

So, how could I modify this knife and make it better?
I guess I could buy a flat ground Chinook II and have it reground as a hollow ground Chinook II.

Really, Sal Glesser and James Keating got it right with the Hollow-Ground Chinook II.

it would be nice if the harpy was available with a plain edge...

Good news!!! The Harpy is available in plain edge. You got to look for them but they are out there. I got a couple of them.

I mean available as in regular production. I'm not gonna hunt one down on ebay and pay $200+ for it when I'm just looking for a user and not a collector's piece.

I like the police suggestion. Let me add...Jess Horn stretched out to somewhere between 3.5 & 3.75, whatever steel Mr. G has laying around, just about any color but burgundy. Hoooooyah!
I also like JD's ideas about the dyad, let me add that I'd like to see the plain blade with a sturdier tip that I prefer for a blade that size. On the mini=dyad, I would't change it, because that size blade is well suited for an ultra-pointy splinter-picker.

As I posted on the Spyderco home forum, my "perfect spyder" would be the C83 Schempp Persian, revamped with a full flat ground blade, 14mm thumb hole, fine traction grooves on the ramp and choil (like those on the Atlantic Salt), and no Boye dent.

Although I prefer loose pocket carry myself, drilling it for LH clip mounting and including a left-hand clip would be the icing on the cake. If Columbia River can do that on far less expensive knives, see no good reason why Spyderco could not do it, at least on fairly high end, and otherwise totally ambidexterous ones like the Schempp Persian.

My point exactly! exept maybe wave…

I'd want a Ti frame lock based on a BG42 R2 blade. Forget poor mans sebenza, it'd be better.

I'd also want to push the blade steel super steel race a step further. If S125V has troubles then go to ones that don't. There are plenty to chose from. I'd even make it simple and take M4, CPM 15V ( the ultimate in abrasion resistance). How about T1 High speed steel?

We can fantasize can't we? In fact I have much respect for VG10 and S30V but I'm a steel junky of the worst kind. BTW, I completed my first knife ( almost, need final polish & sharpening). It's crude but it's steel, it cut and Imade it with just files, sandpaper, a Saw, and a torch . I live in a townhouse and have no shop. My left hand was my vice. ( still strong from my weight lifting days despite needing shoulder surgery for the second time.

I'm trying to find a normal house with a basement or other suitable shop type "joe's" area. I love woodworking too, especially nice hardwoods. Joe L.

Take my Manix add thicker liners and a beefer tip . I would be VERY happy with that . If you got rid of the finger choil and added 1/2 more of usable blade. Well I'd buy 3 .

Since it can't be easily done, mine would be as I mentioned in my earlier post. Salt 1 blade in an Endura handle with a low rider clip.

Maybe add grippy C/F to the Chinook II hollow. A little lower pocket ride. I'm pretty much with Ken regarding the Chinook II. If the *I* was lighter, I guess that would be the ideal Spyder, for me (add c/f & lower ride, in s30v). But then it would no longer be the *I*.

I would absolutely just love a "trailing point" Lil Temperance model with the new M-4 blade steel and a Glassbreaker just like the one on the Spyderco Assist I model.

Also a custom holster made to Spyderco's Specs would be great for the LIL T and the Gunting both

Para-Military in ZDP-189 and CF scales.
I feel about the PM like others in this thread feel about the Chinook.
Although I love my Jess Horn, Salts, and ZDP Foliage Green Delica (I swapped blades), if I could have only one folder, it without a doubt be the Para-Military!!!
