Caly3 with Cocobolo for gents knife.
CF Adventura along with Deacon's suggested Persian

My Tasman Salt, minus the blade play, with a stronger lock, micarta handles/Ti liners, and a different clip. It is a really great knife, and these are the only improvments I can think up.

If the reader has not held a Chinook II and studied it for an hour or so

Sorry, I stopped using hallucinogens several years ago.

I jest, Mr. Cox. But your effusive praise for the Chinook begs just a little kidding.

I own a Chinook II, and I concur with most of your judgement. It is indeed one of the finest examples of a production knife I can imagine. Yet I do not regularly carry it, because it seems to me that it was designed for a specialized defensive technique, and consequently somewhat limiting. I prefer a style that is more point driven.

I would love to hear more about the Chinook's intended usage, as I am always open to learning more, and would be glad to find a rationale to carry one. IIRC Mr. Cox, you once posted, perhaps in Practical Tactical, a succinct description of the back-cut as perfomed with the Chinook. I'd appreciate a retelling of the technique, along with any further "moves" or applications of this fine knife.

Couldn't disagree more. The Chinook II is a wonderful combiation of functionallities. It is small enough to be very controllable for daily cutting tasks but large enough to be usefull in situations where you need something larger. It's built like a tank but cuts like a champ. It doesn't disappear like a D4 or Caly Jr. but carry isn't onerous either. It may excel at some particular SD technique but it certainly isn't limited to that. It's a great EDC.

kbuzbee-I appreciate your input. Since I don't want to hijack this thread, I'll introduce a discussion of the Chinook on another thread.

Thanks again.
