Your Most Critical Survival Resource

G'day Mac

How long did it take to make that water run from the time you made the decision to the time you had water you could drink?

Turned out the mountain spring was about 1/2 hours walk from camp. As the water in this area is drinkable without treatment, I guess all up it took 1/2 hour from the decision to look for water to drinking it.

Kind regards
Mick

pict, you said that you leave that BK-7 in your pack when at home what type of pack do you carry all that stuff in?

If I'm just going to carry that stuff I use a very simple pack. The knife and canteen go on a pistol belt.

I don't carry a gun in Brazil anymore since the laws were made more restrictive but that is the pack i carry when I go lite. Mac

Kyote! They grow up and are gone so fast that it makes you wonder where the years went. Get started as soon as you can. My Daughter made her first camping trip at about six months old and she still loves it 32 years later.

We do car camping- it's the hammocks and poncho liners in the field bit that Leif hasn't done yet. He's good for a mile or so hike in now, and we'll be going soon. Gotta keep him happy and confident and go at the right, somewhat gentle pace until his SERE time ;)

Mac,

Great thread, as always! I just picked up a Cam. Pilot Survival Knife, I see that you have the same/similar in your pack. What do you think about them? Can you expand on the sheath set-up a little?

Keeping a fire going in the rain generally requires some form of roof / shelter to keep the rain off.

When I need to keep rain off, I generally use strips of bark that are supported above the fire by the rocks that form the perimeter.

As I generally keep an eye out for strips of bark when collecting firewood, these were on hand when I needed them. It would have taken less than a minute to arrange them over the fire as shown :D

Kind regards

Great thread!!! Now I have to go out into the scorching South Texas sun and do something productive :o

I really like that water filter, that gives me a project for tomorrow since I don't go to work until 4 on monday

....on a side note....did anybody watch the home made air-conditioner video immediately following the water filter? Yet another DIY project that will hopefully lower the light bill :D
