Your Most Regretable Knife Purchase

I bought an Ontario RD 6 and still have it. When I got it, wasn't to impressed with the thick scales, the fact the scales are not flush with the blade and the sheath is not impressive. Bought an ESEE 6, its in a whole different world compared to the Ontario. The scales are not to thick, sit flush with the blade, great grip in the hand, just a real great blade. The Ontario sits in the dark depths of my closet now, maybe some day in the far future it will be let out, prob to be put on the for sale section.

some piece of s&#$ smith and wesson small "swat " knife. literally fell to pieces( blade fell out when i opened it)

I wouldn't pay $1050 for a lightsaber let alone a piece of sharpened steel.

Guys, Dirtpig is right. Have any of you stopped to think for just one second that the lightsaber eats through batteries like no other. Lucas told me that it takes 492 CR123A's to power a lightsaber for 20 seconds. That's only slightly longer than a Surefire incandescent light.

God bless,
Adam

Psssshhhhh! Maybe back in the day. They use nano carbon battery tubes now. I can play Jedi Mall Ninja all day long!

:D

To no-one in particular,

Some things I would not say on a forum because they can come back to bite you in a legal way. Glad you lived, glad you learned.

God bless,
Adam

The 1st (and so far only) custom knife I've purchased via the Bladeforums exchange.

The knife itself is fine, but the whole experience of dealing with the knife maker's lies and B.S. excuses for months on end ruined it.

Unless those CR123A's are made by Busse, and therefore charged by an INFI battery charger. They would then be better than anything on the face of the earth and power one for a lifetime. Of course since they are INFI charged they will cost around x5 more than regular ones.

+1. I had the same experience with a custom maker, early on in my BF tenure, and it was a really frustrating situation. Wonder if it was the same maker?;)

ETA: I did pick up a Fehrman Last Chance back in the early days, and was disappointed that the handle was way too blocky for my taste. It was an aggravating defect on an otherwise outstanding piece of steel.

I bought an 'Ontario Rugged Gear Hunting Knife' 9" overall for $15. It isn't a bad knife for the money, but the handle isn't very comfortable and the steel is only OK. I haven't actually gotten around to using it and because it is a cheap knife I wouldn't get much for selling it - I'll probably look at giving it away at some point.
I did sharpen it and it took a good edge, but 'made in China' and 'stainless steel' usually mean that the edge retention is going to be pretty mediocre.
It IS a full tang knife, so it probably is rugged as it's name suggests - if the handle wasn't so uncomfortable then it would be an OK knife for the money.

Overall I'd rather use a Mora for similar money - at least they have decent steel and a comfortable handle.

rc-3, rc-5 & bk-9. the 3 was just too thin to be comfortable in my hand and the 5's nearly square edge on the scales caused hot spots. i knew i'd rather use my 4 and junglas over those two anyday so i sold them. the bk-9 isn't as good a chopper as the junglas but i'm keeping it as a loaner knife. if they accidently hit a rock with it and chip it i won't get as upset as with the junglas.

Two words- Mtech USA. What a piece of crap. Sometimes I have lucked out with China(not often), but this knife was terrible!

Oh so many bad purchases. As others have said each buy, allows me to buy better. Its a learning experience to know what you like. So I look back at my shitty purchases and remember the day i though that knife was the bomb til i learned more from places like this.

However certain inexpensive knives that by no leans are as good compared to knives 15 times there prices still bring me enjoyment for their relative price.

Is my Sebenza comparable to my Rat 1 no but i still love that Rat 1 considering I paid $24 not $400.

I know these are cheap and not made in U.S.A. but I happen to have a small MTech pocket knife that I have carried daily for over 5 years....there I said it, the truth is out. Truth is prior to getting to ESEE I carried all Gerber knives never having no issues other then edge retention. I also have an Ontario survival knife that I use a great deal as my bush craft practice knife. (Save the ESEE-4 for when I actually venture out into the woods) It will get used eventually but not without purpose.

Only knives that have ever failed on me were mis-used, abused, etc. I don't really see this as a knife failure.
I see a lot of talk about assisted opening, never owned one. Likely I never will.

I was young and foolish, so I bought a Frost Cutlery (there's a red flag right there) survival knife for $20. This was before I knew anything about the worth of an actual knife tang and the how crappy China 440 stainless is. That thing was a definite POS! In later years I realized this and decided I would snap it into two pieces. So I grabbed it and broke it. The damn thing was just welded to the handle. Now I have 2 Pieces of Shit. hahaha I hope nobody ever buys from Frost Cutlery again.

Smith and wesson black ops, And yet for some reason i still keep it in my rotation for EDC. I guess i like the look....

Anyone think me pulling the trigger on a seal pup will be regrettable? I have alot of high end stuff but I always wanted to try a seal pup.

Nuts?
