Your next SAK?

I EDC a Vic Bantam. I'm thinking about getting the Alox version, since I almost never use the toothpick or tweezers.

I actually just got mine, a Yeoman with a file. A very nice mod. Next I'm going to try a Yeoman with pliers and a long nail file. I think that will be my ultimate EDC SAK...for now.

thanks supratentorial, hope you like em. my latest one is an yeoman - mechanic.

the next will be some more splash.

Just ordered a one hand opening Trekker. Will replace a couple of Rucksacks I have without the 1 hand feature (Had dominate hand injured and couldn't use it while out in the mountains last year. You can open a Rucksack 1 hand but its a lot harder, slower, and risky than I'd like - even worse when its getting dark and cold out. Hence the SAK upgrade.)
My favorite pocket carry knives are traditional American made slip joints, particularly 3 blade stockman knives with natural handle materials such as stag or bone . (These are production type knives. Am going to get a custom someday.) - - But given my interest, I was surprised when I realized that I own a greater number of SAKs than any other type of knife. And the reason is every one I own has terrific fit and finish - - and at a great price giving the buyer lots of value for his money. Regards, - - -

How easy is the one-handed SAKs to actually open one-handed. I've been thinking about getting one, I just have never handled onen and I'd like to know.

Thanks.

I just said I never handled a SAK....:barf:

Funny you should mention. Since this week I have been evaluating an OHT, a current version with the more rounded thumb hole. Actually, I have had it since last year, but only lately got around to carrying it EDC.

So far, my impressions have been favorable, but the jury is still out on how easy it is to open the blade one handed. With practice, maybe I'll get used to it. Point is, the very first time I opened a Spyderco blade, it was a smooth, natural movement, not like that with the OHT. Manipulation is a bit awkward, with heavy resistance from the backspring. In time, I expect it to work smoothly, but the spring will probably remain stiff. For now, I'm thinking of it as a blade you can open one handed, rather than should.

I've had difficulty with my newer OHT as well. I've had it for 3 months or so, and it's still tight. I also have an original model GAK (OHT with olive drab scales). It opens much smoother than the newer one. But I still like the newer one with the larger hole better.

And my newest SAK is a Tinker I got earlier this evening. Tinker + flashlight combo.

Well the OHT is a liner lock and they always seem to be less easy to open than regular lockblades.
My OHT is a little over a year old, i don't know if it "smoothed" up from use or if i just got used to it but i can quickly open it now left and right handed.
No its not as fast as my Spydercos but my Spydercos can't open bottles or cans, turn screws, pop corks or saw through wood lickety-split! lol.
I love Spydercos but a OHT is more versatile, i only wish it had scissors and a corkscrew instead of a philips, (Basically a OHT with the tools of an Outrider).

Tell me about it znapschatz. As for me, no plans, for now. Of course, no plans at the beginning of the year either, but have already bought three: silver Farmer (it was on sale on amazon and I need to get to $25); pretty old Huntsman from eBay with long file, clip point small blade and old style one legged scissor spring which cleaned up beautifully (when am I ever gonna see one of those again?); and yet another original Manager (I needed another backup for my three backups of my EDC, honest). Sigh. The best laid plans and all that :D .

Already have a OHT, CHAMP, CHAMP XLT, SAPPHIRE TINKER, RED TINKER, HUNTSMAN PLUS, HUNTSMAN LIGHT AND SWISS TOOL RS. HAVE A SUPER TINKER AND MANAGER 2 ON THE WAY. ALSO JUST ORDERED A RED FARMER ON IMPULSE BECAUSE YOU GUYS KEEP GOING ON ABOUT THEM. AFTER I GET THOSE IN THE MAIL THOUGH I WOULD LOVE TO PICK UP A 91MM WITH EMERALD SCALES BUT I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING A MODEL WITH THOSE SCALES I LIKE LET ALONE ANY EMERALDS IN THAT SIZE.
