Your opinion

I'd recommend the tan set, because they match so well
and because the finished piece will probably have a
ringed appearance.

As this is a "Gentleman's Bowie" if the knife was mine I would go with the evenly matched set of ivory and add gold pins to the knife.

I think that this is a knife that lends itself to engraving and if in the future you decided to have the knife engraved the gold pins would be a perfect compliment.

Hi Thom,

What you are seeing is two photos of the same sets of scales.

Oh. :o Well then I like them twice as much! :)

The folks who are better at collecting and the folks who are infinitely better at making are choosing the other scales and that suggests your new bowie might be better looking and worth more in the long run with the caramel scales, so I'm sharing my opinion only for the enjoyment of sharing.

I would have to go with the carmel it has real depth. With that said I don't think there is a wrong choice hear.

The Huckleberry will look great with either scales.
What are the scales close to in color to the other knives you collect?
Go with something different.
I prefer the carmel w/ gold pins and DEAN in gold.

The color is somewhat monotone, but the matching, uniform barring is rare and pleasing, which makes them my choice by a country mile. Would go well with bronze guard or bolster.

Both are pretty nice, but the caramel color is what I'd choose on the knife.

Gotta love the "Huckleberry" ! Why not a pair? :D
Salmon/carmel would be my pick! No wait - go for the white, I need one for the other hand.

Do the obvious when faced with a choice like this- order a second knife for the other set of scales!

I think I like the pieces on the left in the first piture, looks more classy. But it's your knife.

Good Luck

Iron fittings on the Huckleberry would look very wrong, imo. Have you ever seen one in person, Lorien?

Have to agree with Russ. For those that think the carmel will be too uniform, I think the ring-effect will pop out when finished. Plus, they match each other so well. That's what I would want on a carbon steel Dean bowie.

I think either would look great but I'd like the caramel if it was mine.
Have a fighter coming from Harvey but it's gonna' be stag.

Hey Steven- I have never seen one! Hopefully I will one day.

In fact, after I made that last post, I saw the picture of the model being discussed, and I have to say that I completely agree with you.

If I were paying more attention, I may have noticed that we were talking about a particular pattern, but as it was, my mind made up it's own idea about how that handle material would look on something with a wrought iron s shaped guard and matching pommel and about 11 inches of scimitar shaped, blued blade.

But continuing on in the same vein my first post started, I think the handle material in question would look wicked with a mokume bolster, giraffe bone spacer and a leopard engraved on the handle.
:D
