Your perfect pattern?

Simple as that. What's your perfect pattern. Size, shape, blade count, handle material, you name it. If it fits you like a glove, well I wanna hear about it. Some like I'm small, some like em big, some like em single bladed, some like 5, so what's your perfect pattern?

Me? The GEC scout trapper is just about perfect. Two blades, perfect size in hand. And of course primitive bone or ebony wood. Doesn't get much better than that.

Jeez, tough question. In theory, TL-29, but a bit heavy in the pocket. Easy Open Jack. Forum size or smaller.

I started a thread about this very subject last year I think it was. I had decided at that time that I had my perfect knife, but I didn't know just which one it was. I have since paid a bit more attention to what I pick up and carry. Hands down, the one that hits my pocket most is still the mini copperhead although I do have a PW red Case sway back gent that is really giving it some competition. Anyway, the mini copperhead looks like this:

Six weeks ago I would have said the Stockman pattern. Particularly the Case Humpback Stockman.

Not anymore though. I don't recall ever having a knife that fits me as well as this Ken Coats custom. The large Sheepsfoot blade, the uniquely shaped secondary blade, the ATS-34 blade steel, the size to weight ratio, and just the overall design are as close to perfection for my individual tastes as I will probably ever get. Makes an outstanding EDC knife and it's built like a tank. It fits me like a glove, no doubt about it.

I like to call it an Ez-Open Sheepsfoot Jack.

OK I gotta ask since I'm new here, what's with the wharnie blade style? I see alot of people who love it. Does it work well for edc?

I too love the way it looks, but I've never had one either. I'm interested to see what people say. Good question man!

Wharncliffe blades are good for precise tip work, like opening boxes, trimming newspaper articles, snipping tape, etc. They are good blades for delicate type uses.
Sheepsfoot blades (above) are basically sturdier Wharncliffes with less point. They are the quintessential rescue blade shape, and have all the advantages of a wharncliffe.
I have not found my perfect pattern yet, still searching. As of now, my favorite would be a Case mini trappre in CV with yella handles.

I'm not too picky about handle material, etc., but my favorite "traditional" pattern is the Stockman. 3 useful blade types, pretty much have all the bases covered. I prefer the smaller size like a Buck 303.

This is a really tuff question to answer. I would hate to go with just one.
I imagine if push comes to shove I could get by with my Bull Nose, but I would want a lock, so maybe a #73L. I would miss the two bladed Doglegs though.

Depends on what day I'm asked, right now it's a GEC Geppetto whittler in buffalo horn :D

Seriously though, my all time perfect pattern is the traditional Scout or Camp knife. They're a little heavy for EDC pocket carry so I usually have mine in a belt pouch. A Scout is what I go to the most when I need it. Other than that I've found I really love the Peanut as an all-arounder.

I have not found a perfect pattern personally. I like most of all of them when done right.

I would take the GEC 71 Bull Nose Work Knife. I would keep the pivot the same size but want it to be seemless. Keep it O1 blade steel. Give it Lignum vitae handle slabs and call it a day.

Rick, someday I will have money and I will have that exact knife made. Beautiful.

If it existed it would be a 3.5 inch barlow with a 2.5 inch spear blade and a 2 inch sheep foot blade. case dark chestnut bone handles with cv steel that is produced by GEC.

That would be the perfect knife period.

you just like to tease that bull nose. man i would love one of those

I'm not aware of anything perfect south of Heaven, but I'll give it a go, nonetheless. You didn't specify it to be a slipjoint, so I will list my slipjoint and fixed blade "perfection."
