Your perfect pattern?

I like Jacks, Mooses and Canoes and single blade clip points.

And by an unholy freak of circumstance I have ideal versions of all of them

Jacks - S&M F&W red jigged bone and ATS34, or the Queen teardrop in ebony and 1095
Mooses - Winchester in bone and 1095 or GEC in stag and 1095
Canoes - Queen cobo D2
Single blade - Northwoods #11

It is sad, in fact, because having these does mean that I am taking less and less interest in cutlery. though I'd like a SS/ebony Moose

I'm partial to the stockman pattern and to the Wharncliffe trapper pattern.
3 7/8" is my preferred length.

Stockmans are a whale of a lot easier to find.

I like Jacks, Barlows, and Sodbusters.

OK I gotta ask since I'm new here, what's with the wharnie blade style? I see alot of people who love it. Does it work well for edc?

I do like it. I find that a straight blade can offer some advantage. However, lately I realized that the blade shape is less important (to me) than other geometry features of a blade.

Six weeks ago I would have said the Stockman pattern. Particularly the Case Humpback Stockman.

Not anymore though. I don't recall ever having a knife that fits me as well as this Ken Coats custom. The large Sheepsfoot blade, the uniquely shaped secondary blade, the ATS-34 blade steel, the size to weight ratio, and just the overall design are as close to perfection for my individual tastes as I will probably ever get. Makes an outstanding EDC knife and it's built like a tank. It fits me like a glove, no doubt about it.

I like to call it an Ez-Open Sheepsfoot Jack.

Rick, you know...there is quite something about this knife that makes me think that, should I ever get one, it could really make me wish for nothing more.
Meanwhile, and back to the OP...
I don't really have an answer to this question. I'm still searching, and maybe it's an endless search in itself...which is good, not bad at all.
So far, I would say that a 3" to 3,5" (closed) knife, with ivory/ebony/horn handles, in some good stainless steel, with a clip/drop blade combined to a wharncliffe/sheepsfoot, would fill my hand and fulfill my wishes.

I've narrowed down my to two patterns depending on the day.

Stockman on weekdays. I rotate a Case and a Schrade Craftsman.
Trapper on weekends. I rotate a Case and a GEC Pioneer.

Recent purchases:
GEC Tidioute Stockman - not in rotation yet
GEC DogLeg Jack - still in the mail.

The Case 3254 Trapper with carbon steel blades is about perfect for me as far as traditional slip-joints go. I am a big fan of trapper pattern slippys in general but the 'ol 3254 just looks and feels right for me.

Stockman, hands down. Maybe not the coolest looking, or most original, but for pure utility this 3 blades are as good as it gets.

For me, don't know if it is perfect yet, but it sees by far 5 times more pocket time than any other traditional I carry, is my beat up old 3 1/8" serpentine jack by Hammer Brand. I found it in the bilge of a boat I bought years ago, it was rusted pretty darn bad, but I brought it back from the brink of death! It just fits right and has good sharp blades to do what I need. Currently working on making my first slip joint, a modified wharncliff sway back SBJ. We'll see how I like that pattern after I get it done.

Here's a quick cell phone pic I just took here at work of my knife...hope the boss isn't looking!

Jeff, that Ram's Horn is beautiful stuff, eclipses most stag!

I like a single spring knife best, 2 blades for preference. But, I'm open to suggestions....

Thanks, Will, I like the colors in it. I have an older one in rough rams horn that is more greenish/brown-- nice texture, but not as pretty!

I could never decide what my perfect or favorite pattern is, but I carry a stockman and a pen knife most of the time.

As of now ( my taste can change on a whim ) my two patterns that keep finding their way in my pocket lately are the Buck 309 and the GEC #33 Conductor.

I always liked stockmans and single blade lockbacks the best. Oddly, I never got into 2 bladed jack knives for some reason. If I had to pick one I would go for the 3 7/8"-4" stockman.

Im with Vanguard41...it just has to be Harness Jack, also side by side goes the Easy Opener, Stag, Ebony or jigged Bone...but those styles just rock my boat big time.
