My favorite knives are associated with special times in my life:

- Cattarangus 225q -- Given to me by my grandfather and used in WW2.

- Ka-Bar USMC -- first fixed blade knife I ever bought.

- Becker Campanion (Blackjack era) -- bought for myself after I graduated Infantry School.

- Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works Farm and Ranch -- bought for myself after a deployment to Africa.

- Spyderco Ronin -- given to me by Mike Janich when I trained with him.

- CQD Mark I -- given to me by Duane Dieter himself when I spent three weeks at his facility.

- JK Handmade Knives XL Kephart -- bought for by my Best Man as a wedding gift.

- JK Handmade Knives Tanto -- designed by me, built by JK, will be used on my next deployment.

- Scrapyard Knives Scrapper 6 -- my first one from "The Yard" and a hell of a neat blade.

10) James Keating crossada--well what can i say. it speaks to me

It's too hard to rank them, but:

  • Spyderco Military - just feels great and spends time with me in the kitchen (mine is orange)
  • Chris Reeve Large or Small Sebenza - expensive, but worth it
  • Victorinox One-Hand Trekker - maybe the pound for pound champ in knife values
  • Spyderco Atlantic Salt - my "go to" knife in the water.
  • Buck Mayo TNT - All-American titanium goodness
  • Victorinox Craftsman - inspired me to get rid of my Leatherman
  • Benchmade Kulgera - gotta have a Benchmade on the list and this one is the quickest opener/closer ever
  • Spyderco Native - another contender for the pound-for-pound champ in knife value - I'm on my third
  • Kershaw Leek - everyone should have an assisted opener
  • Spyderco Waved Endura - the wave works better than I ever would have imagined and the knife feels just right

I name the top three because I haven't owned more than 10 no-paki, chinese gag knives.

Not in particular order..

1. Vic farmer. It's been a great EDC and I can't wait to take it out fishing and camping with me. Wood saw is great, making me want to get either a vic soldier or rucksack.

2. Spyderco Native. It's also a great EDC and stays sharp for long time. I don't open boxes or zip cords or much of any hard edc tasks, but I can tell the s30v has good retention. I also think it sharpens easier than vg-10 but stays sharp the same. Also, $40 made in the USA? Awesome.

3. My mora clipper. For sharpening, all I've used is the lansky crock sticks for my entire knife addiction, so about over a year now. With the micro bevel you can keep it super sharp on the crock sticks. Made in the land in of my ancestors, carbon steel and $10. It's been my only bushcraft knife.

Great to see so many SAKs in the lists. The plane jane of knives, but oh so useful.

SAK Farmer, beautiful, tough and useful
Opinel, cheap, lovely steel, sharpens up just by looking at it
Fallkniven F1, as near to perfection as I have yet used
Kellam Wolverine, comfy handle, affordable, great differentially tempered steel.
Mora craftsman, cheap, good, don't care if it's ugly
Mora #1, my most used blade.
Victorinox Spirit, precision is too small a word for victorinox quality
Schrade Old Timer 1940T, brass, 1095, nickel silver, can't go wrong with what works.
Tyson Bushcraft, Breeden Knives. Bryan does an incredible handle.

That'll do for now.

When I left the state I sold almost all of my stuff.
I brought with me .
Fallkniven Odin
Robert Hankins tanto.
Wharton StagnSteel recurve fighter.
Hattori ebony fighter.
Buck alpha hunter.
Old Buck Kalinga
Crappy Gerber multi tool

I had a couple of Damascus customs and a speed fighter I bought from BF members that I gave to some locals who helped me finish my house.
They were too nice to be users and, nowadays, it gets used, or it gets gone !

In no particular order, and probably subject to variations:

Mora 510
Red handle moras
that-victorinox-with-sissors
GB SFA
Opinel n°8 carbon
Skookum BT
Fallkniven H1/F1
Japanese "Fukuro-Nagasa"
(not the most practical one but so cool)

1. fallkniven F1
2. Mora clipper
3. vic farmer
4. leatherman wave
5. fallkniven S1
6. Busse nmfbm
7. fallkniven A2
8. Spyderco Manix
9. Shrades SCHF9
10. Spyderco forester
