Your personal Top Ten

There are some in this list that I haven't acquired yet.

1. Himalayan Imports Foxy Folly. Don't own one but it's just so damn beautiful.

Honorable mentions - just received a Walter Davis knife. Haven't played with it enough yet to warrant rating but thus far looks very good. My Breeden Peacemaker. It gets lots and lots of kitchen duty, just doesn't as often pop into my mind, probably because I'm always using it. Rat Cutlery RC-4. Just a solid little knife that stays in the pack as a back up blade. Ranger RD-9....Big Chopper...Ugly but does what its supposed to do. Becker BK7, I still like it. Rat Cutlery Izula - always in my pocket. SAK Camper, Rucksack, Soldier. They are great.

I love the fact that amidst all these big name companies, Victorinox makes an appearance in almost every post, despite the lowly steel, what is it? 440A?

I love the fact that amidst all these big name companies, Victorinox makes an appearance in almost every post, despite the lowly steel, what is it? 440A?

As I understand it the composition is -

C 0.48-0.60
Cr 13-15
Mo 0.50-0.80
V 0.15

I think you're in the right ballpark with 440A or 12c27. I'd probably peg it closest to AUS 6 because of the Vanadium content.

I suspect so dullards can field sharpen them and not snap the tips off so easily is the reason they are ran at quite low hardness 55/56.

Triumph of design over materials.

1. Kershaw Leek. started it all for me,my first AO.
2. RC Izula. my #1 small knife.
3. RC/6. great balance, good size, great Rat Cutlery quality.
4. Leuku. it's been around a long time.
5.Custom shop Buck 110. refined classic.
6.BM 561 Mini Grip. smooth and tight, love the axis lock.
7.SOG Powerlock. hey...it has a knife blade in it, best product from SOG.
8.Vic Trekker. great all around utility knife.
9.Tops Wolfpup. High quality/wicked edge, and priced right.
10.Spyderco Native. S30V for around $30.00 that I paid for them.
