Your Post MAP Enforcement Benchmade Purchases (if any)

After Benchmade started enforcing MAP pricing in late November 2013 I pledged to myself not to buy any unless they had premium materials. I've held to that for myself and Benchmade has lost out on sales of those I would've bought for gifts.

The ones I've purchased since then are in order:

  • 810-1401 (M390, Black/Blue G-10)
  • 484 (M390, Contoured G-10)
  • 940-1 (S90V, CF)
  • 556-141 (M4, Titanium)
  • 710-1401 (M390, Black/Blue G-10)
  • 950-1401BK (S30V, Black/Orange G-10)

I have bought two 940-1 knives, and am currently trying to decide if I need one of the new Ritters with 390 steel.

Haven't bought one yet, just can't get myself to pull the trigger. I managed to buy most of the ones I wanted before the price hike. Since then the higher prices have made other knives seem more appealing and have been spending my money elsewhere.

The Axis lock is still one of my favorite locking mechanisms so I'm definitely not done with Benchmade. Just holding out for new models that really interest me or versions of the ones I currently own in premium materials.

Edit: I take that back, I purchased the new Mini Stryker that was released this year but returned it because of the hump. Before the price hike I may have kept it just because, but now for the price I really have to love it.

With customers like you, I don t believe Benchmade is going broke. :)
I agree with your point, though. I believe Benchmade has hurt themselves with their price increase. Now knives from competitors look like better values,

Ordered my first ever BM, the 810-1401 Contego KW Exclusive, M390, Blue/Black G10, but haven't received it yet. Was at a local gun store yesterday and they had a mini grip for $70, the one with the "Spyder hole" in 154CM. I bought it because while I was finger f'ing it, it felt like it was built like a tank, I don't own a knife in 154CM and I needed something to hold me over until my KW order arrives :). I can't get over how much I love the axis lock. I do find myself looking for the liner lock when going to close it but I suspect I'll break that habit soon. It's just kind of like when I drive someone else's car that's an automatic transmission I find myself going for the clutch sometimes and it's not there. Best locking system I've ever felt...so far.

I've bought a KW Contego and the new M390 Ritter. The Contego wasn't brand new though so I saved a bit there. I feel the prices are still fair for what you get but the fact that you are getting an upgraded steel does help!

I took the same pledge. Managed to not buy a single one this year until last week. The M390 Ritter made me fall off the wagon.

None. Not one.
I confess to be sorely tempted by the 940-1, and would definitely would have bought one, also a 484, if not for the increased cost. I'm finding better value in other brands now.
Maybe I will get over it in time, but that time is not yet, or anytime soon.

I unfortunately began collecting shortly after the MAP enforcement, much to my disappointment. The only benefit of which being that I never got used to having any different prices.

Early on I purchased a 530, which I now would not think to be worth the price.

Since then, I traded for an 810, and outright purchased a 710 and 710-1401. For the knives they are, I think these three are still worth their MAP-enforced prices (especially the 710-1401).

Just a ritter grip, would have been all benchmade but new pricing has me expanding my world views.

Still love BM, but it's all about the knife exchange for my Benchmades now.

I'm not a big Benchmade customer, but since the price-hike I've purchased the Mini-Rukus 615BK-1401 and have one of the M390 Mini-Ritters on the way. Although that doesn't say much because before the price-hike I only bought a GPK M4 Mini-Grip. So it looks like I've bought more after the price increase hmm :D

Post MAP, bought my Volli . Would sure like one of those Ritters in PE satin. I'll bet those blade are slicers!

The first 810 and 710 I bought were both just after MAP but I bought them off the bay at their non-MAP prices. All the others I purchased off the exchange. Nothing new at the MAP price.

I have only bought one BM ever (710), and that was after MAP. I wish I had gotten into BM when the prices were a little better, because I really like the 710. I will probably still purchase from them if something really strikes my fancy, but like others have said, there is some stiff competition out there.

The 940-1 got me. Besides that, none.

Me too... The 940-1 is just too good.

I still buy BM's from the exchange and if an LE is a must have like an AFCK limited, I'd jump on it but otherwise, the value isn't there for me on standard release post MAP enforcement models.

They were ALOT better. 30%-40% better. Current price you paid I assume is $156 (MAP), it was going for $107-$111. For the same exact knife.

Another thing that bugs me is when I hear that many B&M stores allow you to talk down the price to well below MAP. It really supports the notion that it was to not only even the playing field, but it will give non online stores an advantage against online dealers if it isn't enforced fairly.
