I voted Bushcraft, as it's the only choice that I use often. Whether it's just playing around in the backyard, or in camp, or on the trail, I love me a 4" blade with a good comfortable handle that can be used for hours at a time.

The other categories for me that aren't in the poll would be EDC and kitchen. I've mostly moved from folder to fixed for EDC, and having a 2" - 3" blade in the pocket or on the belt is my daily carry. I also love using knives in the kitchen that aren't traditional kitchen knives. We have a good set of Cutco, but I'd much rather use my Galley Wag or other O1 knives.

I chose hunter and bushcraft.

Bushcraft is fun and I get out to play on occasion. Just not enough to justify any more dedicated bushcraft knives.

A hunter is a solid user... big enough to be useful, small enough to be unobtrusive, comfortable in a range of grips, and useful for a wide variety of tasks other than working an animal carcass (in my mind at least, seems to be most peoples definition of a bushcraft knife though). A perfect description of my CBK and the one that sees more use than any other knife I own (hunters are often EDC around these parts).

I find neck knives to be too small and as for tactical... well, I left military service years ago so, why?

The large choppers are nice and occasionally useful (wish like hell I could have obtained mine), small knives are always useful.

I love the look and feel of a lot of the tactical designs. I also like the functionality of a Bushcraft knife when camping. This is a tough poll, as I like them all! I chose tactical, but really questioned why after I chose.

I voted & had to run,sorry about that chief.:o
(not that my vote counts anymore being unemployed & unable to get on The List.)

Your vote does matter to me, I know that you get out and use your knives. I would say that 75% of the names I see in the poll have never even handled one of my knives, let alone plan on ordering one.

If "bushcraft" means camping, hiking, & outdoor living then maybe I could vote for that category also! This is the kind of talk that may have gotten me banned from the Bushy forum. I just don't like that term/word , it has such a GB, Aussie, South African or Canuk feel to it, not a word ever used by any of the Classic American Woodsmen that I grew up reading. There, I'm done ranting! Don't get me started on TACTICAL.

I agree about the word "Bushcraft." I much prefer "Woodcraft"!

There have been 43 people who voted, I only recognize 13 of them as being regular posters here. Lots of new guys "lurking in the shadows."

I went with Bushcraft John, this seems to be the pattern to have and actually is one of the few patterns/styles that I don't own. The only knife I have from you is your tin knife, it sits in my fire kit I keep on my tractor and gets used quite regularly to start fires for burning branches and briars I'm always cleaning up around my trail and in the yard by the creek.

I also selected Bushcraft as most of my fixed blade use is for working around my property. A few years ago, that might have been hunting, but issues with my back have kept me out of the field for the last couple of years. I have an Elk tag this year and was hoping to use it but that doesn't look likely (I'll likely pass it on to a friend and get one from him in return another year - they're obtained only by lottery). Anyway, so most of my use comes from working around my property.

Actually, my real preference in knives is in folders and my next buy from John will be his folder. I'm looking forward to that. :)

I tend to lean more to the "Traditional" (Skinner Type Knife) than the rest as I get an average of 6 to 8 Deer a year and all I do is Gut them and take them to a Processor to be cut up to the way I like my Deer done and then he Vacuum packs it for me and it last all year that way and sometimes even longer.! So I take a 3" to 4" Skinner & a 3" to 4" Traditional ( 4" Handles. ) every time I go hunting { plus a ZDP189 Delica folder }

Since it seems like "Bushcraft" is running away with it, I`ll be posting a follow up question in a new post

I picked bushcraft and hunting. They are what I do most now a days. I'm no longer in the infantry so I don't have a real need for tactical. I like my hunting and bush blades a bit bigger than most but I'm a knife set lover. 2 blades in one package. 5 inches is good for the big blade and then something like your pairing knife or a Toby's knife piggy backed to it.

I use every single one of my bushcraft knives as hunting and tactical knives.. the lines were blurred a bit when it came to usage. I wouldn't carry much that wouldn't serve multiple purposes, so one blade did a multitude of things for me. I do admit that non-specialization could lead to mediocre performance in some instances, but for the most part, all I needed a blade to do was cut, chop, and.. stab.
I still own some knives that are purely made for hunting.. or for tactical situations, but for the last few years of my prior career, it was my Sirupati, GSO 4.1, and then most recently, my Combat and Companion that were guaranteed to be on me.
Of course.. my LRK+ never unstraps; to the point of it not being counted on as one of my duty blades.

I almost exclusively use larger bushcraft knives for everything. My karda from the sirupati, the companion element, and my LRK+ are used for more delicate things.

I voted hunting, bushcraft, and neck knife.

I actually haven't been hunting in a couple of years but I do enjoy deer hunting when I can. I'm usually pretty busy in the winter so I don't have time to go much any more. I'm not exactly a bushcrafter but I do enjoy being in the woods, hiking, camping etc. and always have. I had never heard of bush crafting until a few years ago but it is similar to some of my interests and I do like some of those style knives as they usually work well for general purpose.

As you probably figured out John, I really like a drop point style knife and always have. Most seem to work well for me for just about anything from hunting to wood working and camp type chores. I love my Appalachia Special and have been using it quite a bit since I got it. It's my go to knife now.

I don't carry a knife on my neck often but voted for it because I do like smaller fixed blade for EDC pocket carry. I never leave home without my Mini Appalachia.

I have about 20 custom hunting knives and most all are basic drop point designs in 3/16" thickness. For some reason, the bushcraft style does nothing for me.

Bushcraft, because they better fit my camping/hiking needs. I don't hunt, not military/LEO, and prefer folders for smaller knife use.
