Your Pumpkin Carving Knife?

Thanks, sometimes I even amaze myself. ;) It actually wasn't all that hard. I just took a picture of myself into photoshopped, played with the contrast and then made it into a 2 color image. So I had everything broken into either the highlights or the shadows. The tricky part is getting it so things stay connected enough that you can cut out the details without the whole thing falling apart. So some things had to be modified slightly. Then I just printed it out, taped the template on like you would any other pumpkin carving patter, punched out the out line with the poker thing they give you, then started carving. I was surprised when I put the candle in and saw how well it came out.

If anyone is wondering why I decided to put my face on a pumpkin it's because the patterns I got weren't scary enough.

This Halloween I will be using a satin finished Mini-AFCK w/plain edge. A discontinued item no doubt.:grumpy:

i will be using a custom stag handled fillet knife i have had for awhile, long thin and shaving sharp.used it last year and worked great

ok, this years, still ugly as all get go(the pumpkin, not me)... getting the sword tomorrow or saturday when I roll in...

Spyderco fb03 lum tanto to get the top off, c28p stainless dragonfly pe to carve the face in it.

I used my A.G. Russell Grandpappy (banana trapper) last weekend in a carving contest, and came out the winner for scariest pumpkin. I'd like to say I also had the scariest knife, but halfway through the hacking and carving, I looked up and was surprised to see my niece going to town on a pumpkin with her boyfriend's Boa. That boy better watch himself.

Thanks for the details. I tried doing a skull free hand, using a template for visual reference. It didn't look like anything till I put the candle in it...WOW!

I thought a Spyderco plain-edged G-10 Police would be best but in actual use it became quite a struggle. I switched to a fully-serrated Police and that was a little better but the stainless steel handle got slippery from the pumpkin juice. Finally, I tried a Case trapper and got pretty good results with both the clip and spey blades. Next time I'll probably use a fixed blade--it was a bear to clean up the folders.

I guess today is a bit late, sorry, I was away for a couple of weeks.

I´ve used and X-acto carving set, they have a couple of long serrated blades that are great for carving pumpkins, and the regular blades including gouges are for good some details.
