Your recent opinion on Nick Shabazz ?

If I'm close to spending money on a knife, I look for any review I can find. He's done enough reviews that he has his process down, so his reviews are pretty useful for me in that regard. I don't look for some of the things that he seems to like (I wouldn't be interested at all in the Grimsmo Norseman), but I don't think someone needs to be just like me in order for me to get value from a review.

People have different voices and different accents. If I can understand them easily enough, then I'm good. If it bothers you where you can't watch the video, that's understandable. If you're a jerk about how someone is different, you're the problem.

I lack the Parkinson's and hearing impairment required to enjoy his presentation. I do watch the disassembly vids to view the guts of knives I am interested in, but I mute them.

Basically he's a sound tech that thinks he's a machinist on top of being a near full time fashion blogger. 90% of his knife use consists of bouncing light into a photo sensor. 95% even. The rest of it is opening overpriced #lookatmetooalsomorestill instsgram goodies, cutting open bubble packs full of zip ties, cutting zip ties, prepping lunch for its picture, and maybe stripping a wire or 2 sometime.

I'd say Pete (Cedric and Ada oudtoors) has more use time in a rope cut test on one edge configuration than the combined use of a month's worth of Shabazz' knife video props - which is why I value his performance analysis over pretty much anyone else's on the yootoobuh kniferbro circuit.

That's why I canned one from my sub list and not the other. I really, REALLY doubt Pete is going to ever try and convince me a plain jane leather belt is totally worth 200+ dollars. Unlike some folks with lil backscratcher hands.

Your observations about Pete's reviews are exactly why I like Nick's. Those performance reviews are all bogus. Not even a reasonable facsimile of scientific. Now, if he observed that he knife hurt his hand after 300 rope cuts it might be useful info, but I don't watch the process for 20 minutes to get it.

I want to know about the fit and finish, how easily it is to disassemble and whether or not the pocket clip is going to destroy my pants.

Plus, as someone with smaller, medium size hands I like to feel superior to my review monkey. :D

Sorta surprised about the negative comments. @NickShabazz is doing a bang-up job and I have learned a lot from him.

Can I still watch his channel if I have XXL hands and like big knives with thick blades? Yeah, and I do. His attention to detail, good camera angles, and straight shooting review style is great and he is doing an epic job getting this stuff out. I really, really appreciate him.

Other favs include BirdshotIV, Dr.F, Epicsnugglebunny... I find my tastes mostly align with epicsnugglebunny, but I learn stuff from all of them. I will say the one I watch the most is Birdshot because, in addition to knife coverage, they are just plain funny. Oh and their KME and general sharpening vids are excellent.

There are other ones I like, but some of them talk so slow that I have to put them on 1.5X or 2X playback speed... That is just to get them to sound normal.

The one thing that bugs me about Nick is his admiration with everything Spyderco! Sal can not put out a bad design even if it’s horrible.

He doesn't like all Spyderco's. I watched him go on record, reviewing the Positron, calling it a POJ and didn't recommend buying it. So I went right out and bought it. I like it better than the PM2 or Para3. Damn fine little EDC flipper.

I do find him helpful in the "take apart" tutorials though, but I do take most of what he recommends (or doesn't recommend) with the proverbial grain of salt. It is just one person's opinion afterall.

edit: I don't want to give the impression that I don't like Nick or don't value his vids at all, no far from it. I think that he, as well as all the other you-tuber's, are doing a service for all of us at some degree or other.

Love the Shabazz! He’s funny, informative, and has an accent we don’t often hear in the south.

As a fellow suffer of LBH (little bi*** hands) syndrome I really appreciate his videos especially for knives I haven't handled in person as I know that anything that's a good fit for him will be a good fit for me. I'm knocking one star off his five star rating however since he wussed out and abandoned the frigid Midwest for San Diego. The hate, no make that envy, is palpable.

Well, its taken me a while to figure out what I want to say. Lol. First off, I used to watch a lot of Nicks videos, but more recently, just the ones of knives that interest me. He does a great job, and i especially like when he does comparisons with other well known knives, in regards to dimensions. I dont have a store to go handle knives at, so he has saved me a ton of time and money. Thanks!!
That being said, i dont agree with what he says all the time, but respect his opinion. I dont know anyone who isnt bias toward knives that they like. Its extremely hard to be a reviewer with no bias. You may as well just get a non knife person to do reviews if there is to be no bias. But we all know how those reviews would go.
In Nicks defence...us knife nerds are saying..."hey this knife was just released (or is almost released) thanks for the video, by the way, why dont you have 6-9 months worth of pocket time evaluation?" Lol.
I see Shabazz as an inital reviewer of newly or going to be released knives. Its helpful to know whether or not its worth my time to chase a knife.
Ps. No offense Nick, it took me a while to get used to your voice, but its grown on me.
Keep up the good work. You cant please everyone!

My opinion of him has changed. I watch his reviews. He’s thorough. I enjoy the disassembly videos. Im glad he is using more of his real voice than he did in his older videos.

Nick Shabaaz, the man, the myth, the legend. He is someone that obviously is passionate about knives and the community, a complete genius with his puns and extremely entertaining and resourceful. I also respect and appreciate the amount of time that he puts into his videos as well as the donations that have come from his involvement in reviews.

A wonderful, positive, funny individual. A true gem.

On a side note, just because his views may be different than the ones you have (often the case with me), or he dislikes a knife you love (also often the case with me) doesn't mean he is bad at what he does. He also fully discloses how he acquired the knife he is discussing and I appreciate the transparency.

My two cents, just like anyone else on here provides.

I enjoy his videos. I watch the ones of models that interest me. He has some fun with it and that is fine by me. I hope he continues.

Winner of this years "Sheeples Choice" award for best Directors "cut" Nick Shabazz.

Applause - cue cameras for exclusive close ups of only the audience's hands clapping.

Accepting the award for Nick tonight is some guy wearing a really nice watch. No wait that is Tom Cruise! Hey if he can play Jack Reacher he can play Nick Shabazz. Not so much of a Spyderco Stretch there.

Some guy in a nice watch next week posts a Youtube comparing the size of a Golden Globe to an Acadamy Award.

,,,Mike in Corny,,,I mean Canada
