How did you first know Spyderco?
What make you love Spyderco?

I like to heard any story about you and your Spydercos

I first saw them at gun & knife shows. Then a friend I work with had an Endura at work. Then I came to like them after I purchased my first Spyderco, you guessed it an Endura. Now I'm hooked, counting our 204SM, we have 5 and there's definately more to come! RKBA!

First time I saw and hadled Spyderco at Moscow flea market - it was - surprise, surprise Endura (steel hadle, plain edge). What can I say - love at first sight. Bought it, then found local dealers and bought some more Spyderco knives - now own 10 different knives and bought some for friends. To my mind - Spyderco are best production folders.

about 8-10 yrs ago i bought a faux spydie delica at a gunshow, for $5 - i carried for a few months (it worked suprisingly well, i gave it to a buddy a few months ago, and he carries as EDC) and liked it so much i shelled out the $50 or so and got a real 1, and have been rolling since.....

Bought my First (a Endura) in 97 and quickly found that the Spyder hole was by far the BEST opening method...In 98 that Endura saved my life ...Ive never been without a Spydie in my pocket or collection from that day..

I was living in Eastern Europe and a fellow American there carried a plain-edged Police model. Envious, I dropped into a few shops that carried these strange knives with clips and thumb holes! I even located a few copies of Tactical Knives magazine to learn more about them. Once I was back home in the states, I traded the Czech auto I'd been carrying for a 50/50 Delica at a gun show.

I finally bought one just to see what all the fuss was about even though I am something of a traditionalist when it comes to knives. I still don't really like their looks, but more and more I find myself leaving the house with my Calypso Jr. in my pocket. It is light, unbelievably sharp, and strong enough to do most of what I do with folders.

In the mid 80's we flipped a raft on the Gunnison River (Colorado).
My sister became entangled when a stick pointing up-river went between her body and life jacket.
I cut her life vest loose while holding on against the current with my free hand. My knife was a Buck 110 so I had to open it with my teeth.
Not only did I chip a tooth, I also lost the knife trying to close it.
A few days later I visited a hardware store to replace the Buck and encountered Spyderco's Standard Model C-05.
The store clerk couldn't explain the funny hole but I knew at once this was a one-handed folder.
Love at first sight.
I replaced the Buck with the Standard and have been bitten ever since.

My very first Spyderco was the 98 Endura fully serrated. I loved this from the word go! However what sold it for me was when it was used by a friend to cut up a soda can to make a heating surface for cooking (small hot plate). It took this and the edge was remarkably uneffected by this. It did take a little work to bring a couple of the serration curves back to razor sharpness, but no chipping at all. One tough knife!

I was visiting the Sporting Goods section of a local Walmart and started knife collecting with Bucks & Gerbers. I kept them hidden from my wife. I then found a current copy of Blade (or maybe it was KI) and snuck it into the house. I saw a Spyderco ad and noticed the company was located here in Golden. I went searching for stores that sold knives. I found a Army/Navy Surplus store in Olde Town Arvada and recalled seeing a shop that had a Spydie sign hanging outside.
The first Spydie I bought was an Endura plain edge, then a serrated Military from those two sources. I drove up & down Hwy 93 looking for SFO but always came from the North heading South. Never did see it!!! One day I went from the South heading North and THERE IT WAS!!!
From that point let's just say I spent a lot of time in the neighborhood just dropping by!

For me, it all started with a zytel "Cricket". Then came a Delica, Spydercard, Toad, CF Dragonfly, and a zytel Dragonfly, to take to airports. If I had to have one confiscated, I'd want it to be a zytel model because they would be easier to replace. I know there are a few I've forgotten. The Toad is my favorite.

First time I saw them, I hated them- ugly, hump-backed creatures with serrations like a kitchen knife & a hole in the blade. Dismissed them as a "gimmick" (this is early-mid '80's) Fast forward to 1991- I was a volunteer firefighter & some of the guys had Delicas- was floored by the utility of the things- plastic clips & all- Finally bought one in about 1992-3 in Berlin, Germany of all places- cost me a fortune, but I loved it & it served me well. It's since been retired to the Old Knives Box & has been replaced by a dozen or so of its brothers & cousins. Have 2 Spydercos on me now (Rookie & Navagator). Funny how you can change your mind about something...

Imma late bloomer when it came to lovin' them Spydies

Read much about it in US knife magazines, but never really caught my interest until I got my first Spyderco in '98. It was a C-17 Catcherman which I've used thoroughly in my fishing trips

Then the lurve grew as I added more and more Spydies into my drawer. Late last year, I made a pilgrimage to Spyderland at Golden, Colorado and met the man himself - Sal and his merry band of Spydercrew. It was an unforgettable experience for me. My personal thanks to Joyce Laituri for making things happen and all the good people at the Spyderco Office including Bill and Angela at the Spyderco Factory Outlet!!

I was aware that Spyderco knives existed, but never paid much attention. I was busy collecting guns and enjoying shooting and reloading. I did collect a few hunting knives, so I've always loved a well made blade...

Then, about six months ago I bought a Ruko (cheap copy) of a Delica, with fully serrated blade and plastic thumb stud and found it incredibly useful, as I discovered the joy in having a kinfe with me all of the time and being able to open it with one hand, although this knife was not particularly easy to open - nothing like a Spydie!

I set off to my local Spyderco dealer to replace it with a quality version of the same basic design. My first Spydie was a serrated G-10 Rookie, and now it is joined by both large and Jr. Micarta Calypso's w/ plain edges.

I've only just begun...

somehow I got on the mailing list for Ironstone, which had a close relationship with Spyderco. They sent me the coolest big color catalog. I saw they were located in Golden, Colo. Next time I was down that way I stopped in, although it had just changed to Spyderco Factory Outlet. Met Charlie, the then-manager, who must have spent 45 minutes showing me different Spydercos and talking knives in general. I immediately became a huge Spyderco fan; I know quality when I see it.

Just bought my first Spydercos this morning. Still on a "handshake" basis right now, but we'll see what developes!

Well, I got my first spyderco, a Delica, back in 1997. I had read in some magazines about the Spyderco "Police" model a year earlier and wanted one really bad. However I was about 16 at the time and $100+ for a knife was out of the question. About a year later I got involved with the internet and found www.knifecenter.com and found there "specials" page and they had the Delica listed for $30 and thought well I can't get a Police lets try this Delica. The day it came I was amazed by how easy it was to open and how good it felt in my hand. I played around with it for several hours and cut/stabbed myself 3 or 4 times lol. Ever since then I have been a Spyderco fan, I still have my old Delica and now I also have the Spydercard, Pro Grip, Sharpmaker and as soon as it's released the "ATR". Although I'm very tempted to get a Harpy, Bob Lum Tanto or SpyderWrench fairly soon as it's been a long time since I got a knife and I wanted one at Christmas but held off.

I bought my first spyderco in 1994 in a military surplus store. It was a plain edged delica. He wanted 50 for it and i offered him 40 and he refused until his wife came in and told him to sell it for 40... so he did. I carried that one up till last year.... ive tried a million others... but I bought a new delica and like it just as much. its a great knife....i like the ats 55 on it now.... holds a much better edge...

"My First Spyderco"
Sounds like Sal should make a special edition spyderco for the kiddies and call it My First Spyderco (MFS).
Anyways back in 91 when I got to my first duty station I realized that I needed a knife. I first bought a Gerber LST Magnum at the PX that just didn't make it for my needs and sold it. I went back and they had just gotten a shipment of Spyderco Enduras Fully serrated. Bought one and never regreted it. Have lost several Enduras since then. Today I have a 98 Endura and a Military serrated that do their job well. IIRC I paid 28 bucks for the Endura back then.
