Your story of became a Spyderco lover?

Always a gun nut, I didn't carry a knife, but my then-hubby carried a Gerber. Started working for Spyderco in 1999 and got bit by the Spydie bug. The job was almost fatal, the bite harmless. I still love my spydies.

In '91, I lost my job due to "downsizing". To cheer myself up, one day I went to the Los Angeles County Fair, where I came upon a Spyderco booth. I had never seen knives like this before, and thought that they were really cool. Despite the fact that I was out of work, I bought a SS fully serrated Police Model, left handed version. What a great knife! That Police has since been stolen

, but I have replaced it with a plain edge Endura, SS Delica, FRN Merlin, Aluminum Civilian and a Ladybug. Sure wish I had that Police back though - we went through some tough times together!

I bought my first Spydie -- a large Dyad -- after participating on the forums for a couple months. I also checked out the Spydie forum here, and liked the realistic tone of the posts compared to some others. Numbers 4, 5, and 6 arrived in yesterday's and today's mail.

Am almost surely going to spend the next few weeks deciding which one(s) to carry, now often etc. This is so much fun!

I remember seeing some Spyderco knives over a decade ago in a hardware store. At the time I thought they looked strange and ugly. My taste in knives at the time ran mostly to the larger Victorinox SAKs.

A few years ago, when I started becoming interested in knives, I finally learned enough to appreciate the benefits of different blade shapes, steels, and designs in general. Spydercos began to look a lot more appealing on a functional level. I bought a Native and it became an instant favorite.

Meanwhile, I finally talked my somewhat knife-phobic wife into picking out a blade for herself at a local gun show. She ended up with a blue-marbled Buck Lightning. It proved itself useful enough that she carried it regularly, but it was still just a tool. Then I bought her a Tim Wegner Mouse with a Mike Sastre "Mousetrap" neck sheath. She bonded with that one. It has now been supplemented with a Vesuvius for pocket carry.

Along the way I keep discovering Spydercos that I just must have. At last count I was up to 12. My next most popular brand is Benchmade with 6. Spyderco is way out in the lead.

My current favorite is the Lum Chinese Folder, but I am never without a blue Ladybug on my keychain and a Spydercard in my wallet.

Several years ago, I needed a box opener for work. It had to be fairly small to keep the old ladies from vapor locking. A serrated co-pilot was selected. I liked it so much, I bought a spare, in case the first one got lost. Since then, I have bought 20+ Spydercos, and will continue as long as they are produced.

I discovered Spyderco knives by hanging out with the right people online. Maybe it was at www.equipped.org.

Read about which knives were mentioned the most, complimented the most, and were used in situations similar to those I was likely to encounter.

I was curious, investigated, and when I saw the lightweight plainedge Dragonfly, it was love at first sight. Fortunately, Christmas and my birthday loomed closer, and I filled my wife in on what I would like, and where she could buy it least expensively.

My wife bought my Dragonfly for me. It is also the knife she asks to borrow the most. Not my multitools, not my SAKs - the Dragonfly.

I heard about spyderco knives from reading a book a few years back. Dick Marcinco was the authors name, ex navy seal. Pretty cool guy, writes excellent books. I remember he mentioned Emerson CQC-6 as the best knife he'd seen (a few years ago) and he said he always had a spyderco folder as backup to cut paracord, etc.

I saw my first Spydercos three years ago in a friend's collection...and just could not stop looking at them and wanting to "play" with them. Despite attempts to broaden my horizens and get me interested in a variety of folders, Spydies had stolen my heart! My first personal Spydie...an "R".... which I have used and abused to no end...is kept on the kitchen window sill for easy access...and has made simple chores so much more fun!!!
