  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

your tent brand, weight, name

I have a rokk minimalist it is a little less than 5 lbs I weathered a storm with 45 mph winds and 4 inches of rain in about 40 minutes and didn't get a bit wet. I want enough room to set up I got caught in a 3 day rain years ago back packing I would have went mad in a bivy

Hilleberg Akto

the fly and body set up as one unit, and with out the body, its almost a 2 man tent/tarp. Its a 4 season tent thats very versatile. It has gone on numerous camping trips (winter, fall, spring, summer) and 1 summer season at philmont while working on a conservation work crew.

Minimum Weight: 2lbs, 13 oz.
Packaged weight 3 lbs, 5 oz.
some information on how the weight is determined "Minimum weight is an industry standard and refers to inner tent, flysheet and poles, while packaged weight indicates everything you get when purchasing the product."

Alps Mountaineering Osage 2. Weighs about 6 lbs. Cost me $30.

Used to use a Kelty Ridgeline 3 man tent that weighed 10 lbs. Horrible for backpacking.

Next upgrade. Big Agnes SL2 - 3 lb 6 oz, but $300 or so.

MSR Hubba- Good solo tent for the desert, bad for rain- fly doesn't reach to the ground.

Hilleberg Nallo 2 - Bomber tent. 4-season hoop design. Doesn't breathe all that well.

Gatewood Cape- 14 oz. Tarp/Poncho. Sets up with a single trekking pole. Great little concept. Quality on stitching could be better.

Equinox 8x10 sil tarp- Used in rainstorms in Colorado, buggy nights in Ohio, and clear nights in the desert. Great piece of gear for two people. Find a good ground sheet and bug net and you're golden.

Alright boomer, I think I found something you might be interested in.

I was looking for something for myself to solo use, when I ran across Mountain Laural Designs (MLD). The DuoMid with solo insert would run 1.5lbs., and have a nice large vestibule area, but then I was thinking, it would be kinda tight (no room for gear) for Kathryn and I in it with the 2 person insert.

So, they have a SuperMid! I could get that, a solo insert and a 2 person insert, so depending on if I'm by myself or with Kathryn, I can take either insert I need.

With solo insert it would weigh 31oz. (2lb.), and with the 2 person insert it would only weigh 2.5lb.!

I would have tons of room for two people, and when I'm by myself it would be a palace!

Check it out, it might just be what you're looking for in a two person shelter, and it's light enough to still take for solo trips with the smaller insert.

In fact, with the 2 person insert it still weighs less then the solo shelter you have now!

SuperMid (22oz.):

2 person insert (20oz. + SuperMid = 2.6lb.):
Solo insert (9oz. + SuperMid = 1.9lb.):

I'm another lover of the Go-Lite Hex.

I just recently purchased a Kifaru 8 man Tipi with wood burning stove, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

Sierra Designs Jupiter CD, 3 season, 3 person. Not ultralight, but somewhere around 7-8 lbs. I also have a Byer Moskito Hammock with tarp setup that is much lighter for solos.

Sierra Designs Meteor Lite. I think it's 5 pounds. Best tent I've had so far and one of the best gifts I ever got! Used it last weekend in a torrential down pour and my son and I stayed dry. Made the weekend fun! (how do I include a picture?)

REI Hobitat 4
Large enough for the family & we can stand up.
No leaks and tons of room = heavy as crap! 14lbs - but worth it.

Most often my Clark Camo North American Jungle Hammock. Weight 3 lbs plus. cost was 350 plus.

If I go crazy light the I just use a sil nylon tarp. Integral designs 8 x 10 can't remember the weight. 98 bucks.

Black Diamond Beta Light. Per manufacturer:
