Hi gang, I would like your feedback if you care to offer it? I know there are some smart knife people on this forum, long time collectors. For me, I have owned Medford, Demko, Hinderer, Microtech, the list goes on. My collection is cut down right now to just a few knives, a Hinderer Project X, a couple Microtechs, etc. First off, let me say that after all my years collecting, I really don't like framelocks any more. I won't even buy another knife that is a framelock. However, even so, being a framelock, I still think the Hinderer Project X is one of the true masterpieces of all time. Take-down tool in the handle, comfortable, robust. If I was not a slight blade addict, I think I could make the Project X and my Microtech MSI the only two folding knives I own and be perfectly happy (along with my 2 Bradford fixed blades).

Here is where I would like to hear your thoughts...
What do you NOT like about the Project X that would keep you from owning one, aside the from price? I am very curious?

There's nothing I don't like, aside from maybe the fact that it has stopped me from looking at any more Hinderer products 😁

I very much like the Project X.

Except.

Hinderer retained the sharp jimping by the flipper tab on the Project X that is featured on the XM series but absent on the Eklipse and Jurassic. This itself is enough to kill the deal for me.

I’m a huge fan of the Eklipse, and I’ve thought about trying the Project X several times, but I just don’t care for that blade shape. It’s too broad and boring looking. I know I would end up selling it…I do like the texturing on the lockside tho, and I’d love to have an Eklipse like that some day.

Id like to try a Full Track, but the prices on those are through the roof, even in this economy… if you can find one

It's my second favorite behind the FullTrack.

Interesting, thanks for feedback. I don't notice it so much. Just feels like non-slip deployment. But it is kinda pointy.

I have avoided the other Hinderer models and don’t generally like overbuilt knives, but the project X just looked different and I had to try it. I love it, and I think there was some luck involved because it fits my hand perfectly. If it was any smaller or bigger, I probably would have returned or sold it. The flipper-only opening could be a problem, but I found I can open mine with my thumb, as if it had a thumb stud.

It's right handed.
Now that is a great response! Being right handed, of course I was too numb to notice. This the first time I even considered this. They could have easily put some holes into the lock-side scale for lefties.

I only have one since yesterday :) I really like it, the perfect size and weight for me (similar to, say, the Buck 110). But I still like the Fulltrack a bit better, in particular the 2nd version (S35VN Spanto with more thumb room), because it's more symmetric (similar Ti/G10 on both sides).

One thing that is a bit annoying is how close the clip sits to the back screw. Prevents to install several deep pocket clips that I know of.

I've had a few Hinderers and the only 1 I have left is a Project X. I like the clip point profile, and I really like the working finish with full Ti. While I prefer thumb studs/holes over flipper tabs, the tab does act as sort of a guard when deployed, and as a "harder use" folder it works and is more comfortable in my hand compared to the other Hinderers I've had. Large but still smaller than an xm-24. It breaks down very easily (another high point for me) and works great with bronze washers.

Agreed 100% with all points.

I've been wanting one for quite some time now. I really like the overall pattern and aesthetics of it. The things that have kept me from buying one is that it did not incorporate a thumbstud as well as the flipper (personal taste), and that it doesn't include a titanium scale for the price it's at. Months ago I found a Project X with a titanium scale and custom thumbstud for a great price, but missed it by minutes.

I feel the same way concerning thumb studs. I’m no fan of flippers by any means. And I have yet to try out a Hinderer (any Hinderer). That Project X is one beautiful knife. I need to find me a non-flipper.

You might like the Firetac as well if you're a non-flipper fan. I always thought the Firetac was the ugly duckling of the Hinderers, but then I realized that you can find them for quite a bit less money than the others (at least that's what I saw when I was looking). I got this one used for a similar price as a used Benchmade and have been pretty dang happy with it. It's a Gen 1, I'm honestly not even sure how many Gens there are, or what distinguishes them all. This one appears to be on Nylon (or maybe Nylatron washers), whereas the newest ones have the Tri-way pivot system I believe. I really like the action on this one though, very smooth. I would like to get one of the larger aftermarket thumbdisks for it though.

Like the look, blade shape etc........Like yourself, framelocks don't really do much for me save a few.specific models........It certainly helps keep my spending down, thats for sure!!!!😉........They usually outnumber most other styles......
