Your Thoughts: Hinderer Project X?

Well anyone that knows me knows that I love my Hinderers, but for some reason the first project x that I owned I didn't care for it the best and sold it. Then I gave it a second chance and now have two that I love! I think the first one I didn't care for the color combo that I had because the knife itself is the bees knees! I love my project x. The only thing I would change about it is adding thumb studs. I still prefer the xm-18 but the x is a winner. After I send mine off to add studs it might possibly be my favorite. Got it in my pocket today.

Now that is a great response! Being right handed, of course I was too numb to notice. This the first time I even considered this. They could have easily put some holes into the lock-side scale for lefties.
I've tried to use a righty in a few makers folders and it's a big no. The ergo is terrible as is the function. Even stuff with button release is not intuitive. Righties don't know because they don't have to settle.

Same here, I originally had a stonewashed black G10 one from the very first drop from RHK, knowing that I really wanted a working finish version.
Once those were available I picked one up, then the Ti scale where I could find one.

I did inquire with RHK regarding matching hardware, which they plan on doing but no date yet...

Is magnacut superior to s45vn?
It has better Toughness and Corrosion Resistance. S45VN has slightly better Edge Retention.

Nothing wrong with S45VN, it's a great steel. Hinderer just hasn't been mixing up the steel selection on their knives like they used to in the past. Once you have a few in the same blade steel it gets harder to justify getting another unless it's in another steel.

Excellent chart, thank you. Well I guess since I am in Hawaii, I am glad my Project X is magnacut.

Where is that chart from if you don't mind me asking? I know of Knifesteelnerds and the BladeHQ steel charts, but that doesn't look familiar.

It's from a knife dealer's site. Unfortunately they aren't a contributing dealer of the forum so I can't post the direct link.

Google Magnacut steel chart and you should see it.
Oh ok, I just found it. Thank you.

Soliciting negative opinions about a knife you claim to really enjoy seems an odd exercise, but I'll bite.

I dislike big butts and I cannot lie.. that flared butt-end of the handle, while I'm sure is quite comfortable, looks like (combined with the pocket clip placement) it would take up too much real estate in and around the hem of the pocket for my preferences. The Project X's large posterior, along with the pronounced snag-point.. err, sharpening choil.. in the blade has kept me from ever seriously considering buying one. I think the blade shape itself looks great, but the overall design seems a little unrefined to me personally, compared with the XM-18s/Eklipses/Firetacs. Idk.. I'm sure it's a very well-made knife, and if you really like it, that is great .. but it's got enough going against my preferences that I know I'd never carry it over so many other knives.. and so I will probably never own one haha

A bit old thread but I think the discussion is still relevant. One thing that is not mentioned is the middle body screws are very thin (thinner than XM body screws I believe). I broke one of mine when tightening it. I had to order one from RHK together with the standoff as I didn't know how to take out the broken piece from the standoff.
