Your thoughts on my recent purchase

The coating will help some, since the blade is high carbon you will want to take care of it to prevent rust, overall they are great knives, and I personally liked the sheath on the one I had a great deal.

Good buy!

I had a BK 9 and loved it. I had no probs with my sheath either. The knife has good steel and slimmer blade design which made it an excellent chopper. The only reason I sold mine was I did not like the handles. For me they were oversized and slippery which lead to forearm pump during extended chopping. Mine was the desert version which gave it bonus points in the coolness factor. Kinda miss that blade.
Enjoy that knife, you will appreciate its toughness.

sorry bro I should have clarified

Sheath that came with it is fine...I have even used it once or twice

Just not my "thing" thats all

You did fine. I live in Washington and it's not a big deal. The handle can get a little slick so you might think about slipping a piece of tire tube over the handle.

I got lucky and picked up a used BK9 for 35 bucks.

I sold the original sheath and replaced it with one from my Ranger RD9. It was a better overall sheath and I wasn't using it. Nothing wrong with the stock sheath IMO.

You did well.

I really like my 7 and the sheath works, though I made a couple easy mods so it rides higher on the belt and I toughened up the lower part, so it won't snag on brush as bad.

I like both the BK7 and the Sheath. I stole ideas from Longbow above and did similar mods to the sheath as well.

Cool mods to the sheath. I also see inner tube rapped around that one. Great tinder for starting fires plus many other uses. Cant go wrong with some bike tube on the sheath.

looking for a knife that would take lots of punishment, are the beckers fairly rugged and reliable.

I stabbed mine through the roof of a vehicle just to see if the tip would deform - nope.

Also done a bit of battoning, pried/chopped some tree roots when tearing out a root ball, and for the most part, beat the tar out of it every chance I got. I wore most of the coating off so I stripped the blade and finished it with a P500 grit sandpaper.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better knife for the money.

Great grab you made.

BTW, the pocket on the sheath is the perfect size for a Gerber, SOG, Leatherman multi-tool.

The sheath will rattle a bit. Not side-to-side but when moved in a spine-to-edge motion. Nothing that ever caused concern with me. It holds the knife securely and is quite durable.

pocket also fits an altoids tin perfectly
handle is way way too thick for me as it came, but easy to change - take off the hadles using a hex key and grind down the flat area with a few passes over some sand paper. took 5 min, did wonders for me.

Hey everyone thanks for the feedback and the great tips, from all of your posts it looks like the bk7 should suit me just fine! :-)

Couldn't have done better, I love my bk7, when I want a knife and not an axe ( and thats rare ) I'll take my bk7. Now its not the best chopper, But for mundaine tasks, its fine.

Should there be any quality concerns with the Beckers with the recent strike at the manufacturer. I was going to get the BK-7 but recently backed off because of this.

you might get some really poor grind lines with the newer one. I bought 5 and one had poor grinds. Excellent choice of knives and great price. I love the becker line.

What is everyones thoughts on the coldsteel SRK knives? I just got a CS SRK off ebay $36.00 and am wondering how it compares to the BK7? I can tell this is going to be an expensive habit, already the wife is bitching about the knives oh and also the surefires & two 1911's I just purchased!

More then likely I will just keep em' both. :D

SRK is a pretty good knife...I had one I played with for a couple months and it worked just fine...If I didnt already have a couple knives in that size I would prolly buy me another
