I have two knives from the same family (the Tenacious and the Resilience, 3.4" and 4.25" respectively) and they really are excellent values. By using Chinese materials and manufacturing, Spyderco is able to produce a knife with many of the same design elements as their higher priced US/Japan/Taiwan models but at a price point that a lot more people can afford.
A lot of people look down on Chinese made knives, but this is an oversimplification. Yes, a lot of terrible knives (cough Gerber cough) come from the PRC, but many well made ones do also (Spyderco, Kershaw etc.). What really matters are 1)Is the product well designed? 2) Does the manufacturer hold their Chinese vendors (producers, the people who actually make the thing) accountable for consistent quality control?. For the most part, Spyderco and Kershaw do these things quite well and as a result are able to deliver high quality products at a price that is very affordable for most people.
As a side note, I'm glad to see the OP getting himself into good quality knives. It doesn't matter how much money you have or how much your knife costs, what matters is that it is a quality product and delivers a good value for the money you pay for it and that you like it.
