I don't own any, but by all reports, the recent line of A.G. Russel traditional-styled folders made in China are well made and a good value. Some object to the "made in China" aspect, but this keeps the costs down, and A.G. Russell doesn't put his name on junk. And if you're not satisfied, he has the best return policy in the business.
Pretty much says it all.
I bought an AGR folder with a wharncliffe blade as I couldn't find one anywhere else that I liked. I got it, and it had a couple of problems. I called AGR and spoke to a real person! She told me that what I had was unacceptable, but more importantly they wanted to make me happy. I was thrilled with the design, but not the execution. I opted for replacement and had a new knife of the same model in my hands in about 4 days, along with a return shipping label. So the customer service was excellent!
Liked that knife and then bought another knife from the same series but with a zulu spear blade and different scales. The knife came and was pefect. Liked it so well I bought one of his Barlows, and again, an excellent knife.
The fit, finish and operation on these knives I have purchased from AG Russell have far exceeded the F/F on almost all of the domestic knives I have purchased in the last few years. The only traditionals that could match these easily for F/F is my S&M large whittler, and my Dan Burke medium stockman.
