Hey guys. I am newer to blade forums and i was wondering on all of your intakes on the scrade schf9. I personally like it and just ordered it. It will be in in about a week. Thanks.

If you like it well enough to have ordered it already, that's what matters.

Welcome fellow Iowan.

Great knife to start out with for woods duty with a very modest price point. Hope you like it and have fun. I like these knives, but the problem I have with knives like this and the BK-2 is that I simply choose a different knife for the general outdoor pursuits. The chopping use does not justify the extra weight for me.

Yeah i agree but i am too young for a job( besides mowing lawns) and i do not recieve money very often at all. So seeing the price of it i had to save up for it. My father once bought me a custom knife as a surprise. He took one of my knife designs and had his friend as a favor make me this knife. It was worth about 125 dollars and it is only 7 inches long but with the same steel as the schrade. And the schrade is a quarter inch think yet just over a foot long. So at 40 dollars. That knife is a great one for the price. Towards my opinion.

I don't think that judging knives on a length to price ratio will be very useful.

However, if you like it, that's all that matters. ;)

Never owned one myself but have read many places that it is a lot of knife for the money. Holds up well and up to about any task required of it.

I just recently picked this up thinking it would be a good affordable knife for camping. My opinion, Jack of all trades, master of none. A bit thicker and heavier then I would prefer for almost any duty. Sure it can process wood, but why not use a hatchet. Put together pretty well, and the sheath was a nice addition. Mixed on the scales though. I picked up a Condor Bushlore at the same time. Around the same price, maybe even cheaper. Head and shoulders a better knife at this price point. The wonderful leather sheath it came with was worth what I paid alone.

I like the Condor Bushlore also. I have the original Bushlore that I believe used 1/4" steel and it was just too chunky for me to use and carry. But it does get used as a work knife and I really like it for this purpose. It sharpens up easily enough and is very tough. Move forward a couple years and I picked up the current version of the Bushlore and really like this knife for just about any woods duty. It pretty much is all you need. I of course have other choices available to me.

I'm a very big supporter of the Condor Pack Golok or Village Parang for chopping duty in the woods. I will sometimes do day hikes and take it along to clear limbs and things along the trail as general maintenance (without being excessive). Around the house, I use the Condor Puerto Rican primarily for cutting brush and so forth. I like this one too after I sanded the handles down to a size that fits me.

I might add that I expect you'll be happy with the Schrade. Selecting knives is a process and as you become more experienced, you make different choices assuming that the choices are within your finanacial means. That is very important.

I have been looking at the condore bushlore as well. I have been looking for a knife to take in the woods and split wood without a worry of break and if it did, it wouldnt be too expensive to replace and it seems that the schrade would be better for that. I cannot remember the price on the condore though.

I think you will like the knife young man. When you get it try it out, and let us know what you think. Be careful!

I think your Schrade will work just fine. The Bushlore runs around $30-$35 and I consider it quite a bargain. The only thing I wouldn't do with it is pound too hard on it splitting wood. But I seldom do that anyway. It certainly is no chopper and you can use the Schrade for some chopping even though a longer bladed knife like the BK-9 would be more useful. I really like the short machetes for chopping and have gravitated to them when I know I am going to be chopping with a blade. Even though I totally dislike the handles of the Ontario 12" machete, it is a stout little chopper at about $20. The problem for it is no sheath and for around $50, you can get a short Condor with leather sheath with a much more comfortable handle.

Again, I think you'll enjoy the Schrade.

The schrade came in way faster than expected and i love it!! I have allready chopped wood and batoned. Great knife for the price.

Good to hear you are liking the knife. Now keep getting out these and using it, learn to take care of it well and it'll take care of you.
