Your Thoughts

The main issue with the web site is on the back end. For example when ordering custom knives. I wanted the customer to be able to type in length 10” and width 2” and select the alloy from the drop down and it create a price But it cat do that. So what I had to do is create the custom blade item and give it all the options like pin holes, HT exc. then I had to give it variants. So now each variation is a type of alloy with a price attached for one square inch. So that’s why there is a drop down for square inches. What it does is if you select 20 square inches it times the variant 1^2in cost by 1900% and adds the option prices. It’s very convoluted and very difficult when a price changes. Or if we run out if material we have to delete all that info for that material we can’t just turn it off. Also we can’t offer any other quantity discounts on things because there is only the one bulk volume discount option. So it’s the back end that’s frustrating. Takes hours to add anything new and make sure it’s all up dated throughout the other parts of the store.

what I want is a actual wizard. You click on it and it asks what your wanting to do. You select plasma cutting. It would ask you a series of questions in order and at the end ask if you have any other things you wanted to add. If so it would start you back at the beginning and alow you to add more items.

Hmmm...that could just come down to the template you selected when your web designer built the website. Those features should all be easily managed within the template of your web design. If you aren't able to manage these things easily, it could come down to just rebuilding the website, instead of creating a whole new one. One thing that could make the process cheaper for you is if that's really the only thing you need to add to it. You may be able to copy and paste the whole site into a different template and just modify that. I would talk to your website host if you got the template from them. They may be able to help you chose something new, quickly, and help with the data transfer, which should keep your costs down.

I wish it was that easy. I have talked to their programmers. And it’s not an easy thing todo with there program. See the issue was I went with WIX from the beginning. Don’t get me wrong wix has been great but it’s very limited for what we do. If your just wanting to get a nice site set up quickly to sell a product then I highly recommend them. But our situation is diffrent. We could not even use the e-commerce store thy had. We had to pay fir a secondary addon to be able to get what we needed and even that’s limited. I talked to that company and thy can do what we need but it’s about $200hr to make changes to programming. So just making a change to alow length times width to output square inches woukd cost us 1-2k$.

talking to a buddy that use to program websites for a living. He recommended going a different way and building our own site and then paying a company to host it. This gives us full control of everything we want t. And any and all money we invest is ours to keep and not tied to a monthly subscription.

Sounds like your buddy gave you excellent advice. Full control of your product all the way around is essential. Good luck!

I like the idea of engraving maker's mark. Also, my brother contracts with a group out of Santa Cruz, CA called Cosmic. https://designbycosmic.com/ They do lots of things including web design. I have no idea what they might charge for their services. They also do marketing, branding, etc.

Well we have started down the path of new website. Man talk about overwhelming, brings back the good ol days. But it should be just what we need.

A cool thing I was playing with yesterday was changing the way items are added to the cart. Befor you filled out everything and then added that blade to the cart. Then went back and started over and added other blades to the cart. This new way you just click the plus and it adds another line under the first blade you entered. This is all on the first page. Then once you have all your blades added to that page you just click add to cart. And everything it added. No need to go back and forth back and forth.
