Roshi's thread ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=231454 ) got me to thinking about this since I am basically a collector of factory made tactical type folders.

Here's my top ten in order of importance to me(all plain edge):

1. Axis AFCK
2. CRKT/Carson lg. M-18
3. Spyderco Military
4. Spyderco Starmate
5. Microtech SOCOM
6. Spyderco Massad Ayoob
7. Al Mar SERE 2000
8. REKAT Sifu
9. Timberline Worden Tactical
10.BM Axis 710

There are others, but, these are the most important pieces in my collection as far as EDC goes. They each have their own individual merits which have been discussed ad nauseum here on the forums before so I'll spare you the details.

What's your Top Ten?

BTW,
It dosn't matter whether you prefer factory or handmade. You don't have to justify your choices unless you so desire. I'm just interested in what ya'll love enough to list.
Please make your list in order of preference.:D

All the best,
Mike U.

RL

Edited to add...oops, I only own half of those...hope that's ok :)

Of those that I'm familiar with I would say:
BM AFCK

Spyderco Civilian

Al Mar Shrike

Microtech Kestrel although the handle is not really long enough for "tactical" duties, I due like the blade shape.

Cold Steel Desperado

This post just proves that I don't have enough tactical knives. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will try to do better in the future.:D

My list only includes production folders (including custom collaborations though) because I believe that customs are usually noticeably superior to factory knives (material- and finish-wise) and the production tactical folder range contains probably more well-known knives than the custom folder market so it´s hard to compare these two kinds of knives.

All plain (unless mentioned otherwise):

1) Benchmade AFCK, black blade, Axis lock
2) CRKT KFF, Zytel scales
3) Spyderco Civilian, serrated, carbon fiber scales
4) Microtech Amphibian, black handle, black blade
5) Emerson Commander, black blade
6) CRKT M16-11F
7) REKAT Sifu
8) Cold Steel Vaquero Grande
9) Strider AR
10) MoD Dieter, large

Alright, since this is fun, let me go on with number 11 to 20: :)
11) Spyderco Chinook
12) Emerson Police SARK BT
13) Timberline Worden Tactical
14) Spyderco Endura
15) Emerson CQC-7
16) Spyderco Military
17) Benchmade 710
18) CRKT Ryan No. 7
19) Cold Steel Voyager
20) Benchmade Stryker, black blade

I don't own a lot of these but I'll play since it sound like fun. My personal favorite TOP 10.

1. Benchmade 710 - they didn't invent bolt action locks but they did put it on the map. This is their first, and still flagship.

2. REKAT SIFU - gone but not forgotten! As a friend once replied, "This is the kinda knife that makes you want to go out and look for trouble."

3. Spyderco Police - Classic! If this knife were a car, it would be Steve McQueen's Mustang GT350 in "Bullit".

4. Microtech SOCOM Elite - Makes me think of swapping my SIFU for one.

5. Emerson Commander - The Wave rocks!

6. Spyderco Military - Could so many people be wrong?

7. Any Pat Crawford designed tactical

8. Microtech Vector - The only hawkbill (well, pseudo-hawkbill) I really, really, really, really want.

9. SOG Ti Vision

10. Tie: Benchmade Axis 730 Elishewitz, OR Spyderco Bob Terzuola Starmate - discontinued before I could buy one. :(

Interesting, no Senbenza's mentioned yet! Since I don't yet own ten tactical folders, I'll post the contenders currently on my wish list.

Carson/Obenauf custom clip point

Wilson Combat Ti-Frame or tactical model 5

Microtec mini-Socom or LCC, M/A, clip point, stone-wash, plain edge.

Emerson CQC-7 plain edge satin finish

Benchmade Elishewitz 730

Buck Strider spear point

my 10 (production and custom ) are as follows:

*BM AFCK (axis or liner lock) a classic imho, one of the top 3 imho

*MT SOCOM elite M/A - impeccable quality, excellent ergos, hard to beat imho!! one of my EDC knives....SOCOM is also a winner, but elite rules...

*EKI SOCFK - a waved spec war w/a more ergonimic handle and a cheaper price - one of my EDC knives.....

*pat crawford kasper folding fighter - have a ti frame KFF, smoothest action on any folder i have/have seen. great knife

*pat crawford perfigo - have a satin blade model w/the stud and pocket clip, currently my fav EDC, kind of an improved KFF imho. the stud works 10X better than i thought it would.

*spyderco police w/G10 handles - a lotta knife for the weight

*EKI CQC8 - recently got the SF/EKI combo, a GREAT knife imho, i really like it, might retire my SOCFK, which is saying something, wish it were waved......(all EKI should have the wave, BUT they wanted to follow the custom closely and its not, sooo.....)

*strider ER or GB - strider, need i say more??

*MT LCC w/the ti bolsters, the 1st gen models - have had 2 of them, and these knives approach custom quality imho. sharpest knife out of the box i have EVER had.

*DDR and cammilus maxx models - great knives, the cammilus are not far from the custom versions imho

*emerson custom CQC6 - the knife which started the tac knife craze, imho

each and every one a great knife imho

1-Microtech Socom Elite
2-Benchmade AFCK
3-Benchmade 690
4-Microtech LUDT
5-Cuda Maxx
6-Emerson Commander
7-Spyderco JD Smith
8-Benchmade 940
9-Microtech Vector
10-Spyderco Police

It's really hard. But here are 10 of my favorites. I am sure if I actually got to handle a Becnhmade Switchback or Spyderco Kiwi, they may have made it to the list.

In no particular order (of the ones I own):

Spyderco;

SS Police (PE)
*G-10 Police (SE)
FRN Endura (PE)
SS Delica (PE)
FRN Delica (PE)
Massad Ayoob (SE)
*(I don't own it YET, but it's "on the way".).

Cold Steel;

Vaquero Grande (SE)
medium clip-point Voyager (PE)

SOG;

Tomcat

...I guess that's only nine, but that's all I have that are my favorites, unless you count my SOG PowerLock.:).

glockman99 do you own any Benchmades?? I am just curious. I bet of the hundreds of post I have read of yours where a knife recomendation or list or trade or whathave you, you always list Spyderco 1st, then SOG, the Cold Steel. There is nothing wrong being loyal to certain brands, I am just curious if you swore off all the others :)

(EDITED TO ADD) I TAKE IT BACK, You just mentioned REKAT and Camillus in another thread :D

I will list the ones I own and carry, that I feel fit a tactical role.
1. Strider GB, this one gets the most carry time since I got it last Christmas time.
2.Microtech Socom Elite, One of my all time favorite knives. Perfect in form, function and execution of manufacture.
3.Camillus Madd Maxx, Well made and fun to flip! Great bang for the buck considering the materials used in its making.
4. REKAT, Sifu. I own two. A Red/Black Bladeforums model and a Single Groove Bladeforums model. I tend to carry the single groove model the most. Feels better to me. I wish REKAT had been able to cure their problems, because I love their stuff, but customer relations are important to me.
5.BM AFCK, One of my oldest tactical folders. It is still sweet. It seems small and light duty to me since I have found some of these other knives, but it has never failed me!!
6. BM 710, another great product from BM. The handle feels blocky in shape compared to my AFCK. Must get an Axis AFCK. Best of both worlds.
7.Spyderco Police. This is the oldest tactical knife I have. It is one of the models before they made the edges of the handle champhored. It is beat to death, I even reground new teeth when the old ones smoothed out from years of use. A friend borrowed it and broke the lock and my heart with it. It was my oldest knife friend.
8.Microtech, Kestrel, smaller than all of my other entries, but this baby cuts. It is the perfect hawkbill. I wish I could afford one of the Hawks. I do love big.
9. CRKT M-16-14, This is a great all around beater. Not too expensive on the wallet, and it works well for an inexpensive knife.
10.This last one I do not have yet, but intend to remedy soon. EKI Super Commander. I want one! 4" blade, Wave, what more needs to be said.
Well that is my ten top list, I also think the Microtech LCC is in there somewhere, but I do not have one yet. So many knives, so little money!:D ;) :(

Microtech Mini Socom
Microtech UDT
Benchmade 2500 Mini Reflex
Strider SNG
Benchmade Stryker
MOD Lady Hawk
Strider AR
Benchmade AFO
Spyderco Civilian
Spyderco Calypso (Micarta)

No particular order, but the Strider AR and SnG would be tops.

1. Ken Onion Mid-Tech
2. DDR Bullnose Maxx
3. BM 942
4. Sebenza (someone had to do it)
5. MT LCC
6. ProTech TR1
7. Spyderco Ayoob
8. MT Vector
9. Mayo TNT
10. Dale Reif Matrix

The ones I don't own are the ones that I'm always on the lookout for.

1. Emerson Supercommander
2. Emerson Commander
3. Emerson Mini Commander
4. Emerson ES1-M
5. Emerson ES1-C (civilian version on M)
6. DDR micromax
7. Emerson CQC6( if you can stand the tanto)
8. BM AFCK
9. Strider GB if you can deal with the weight
10. Strider AR again if you can deal with the weight

It's funny that you should ask, but no, I don't own any Benchmade knives. Out of the MANY knives I own, (and have ever owned through the years), I have not owned ONE Benchmade knife. I don't have anything against Benchmade knives, it's just that I've not yet gotten around to getting one.

I've already posted a basic top 10 list on the other liSted topic. However, I had to pipe in. Glockmann and I must have similar tastes based on pervious posts. Glockmann, if you like Spyderco knives with the thumb hole you owe it to yourself to consider the Benchmade AFCK with the axis lock........GREAT KNIFE:D

I've come up with my own top-ten list. Actually it's more of a top-seven-plus-three list. I have owned and use those in the first category. I have only handled those in the second, so I can't honestly rate them against the others.

Owned:
#1 Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5
#2 REKAT Sifu
#3 Kershaw Boa
#4 Benchmade 710
#5 Emerson Commander
#6 Spyderco Military
#7 Spyderco Salsa Titanium

Not Owned:
#1 Benchmade 806D2 AFCK Axis
#2 Al Mar SERE 2000
#3 CRKT M16

Only two of my choices are likely to be controversial, so let me comment on those...

Kershaw Boa: Kershaw is best known for its lower-end knives, but the Boa is as good as any production knife on the market in design, materials, and manufacturing.

Spyderco Salsa Titanium: This is the smallest real tactical I have seen. The grip is better than on many larger tacticals, the blade is practical, and the lock is very strong.

Here are my top ten tactical folders(in no certain order):

1) Snody Resistor
2) Emerson Cqc8
3) Mayo Huge TnT
4) Emerson Cqc6
5) Strider SnG
6) Strider AR
7) Strider GB
8) Emerson 98 Commander
9) Ferret Septic
10)Brend BTF

There are more I could add. You should have made it top twenty :)
