your vehicle anti-theft measures?

Both my Acura CL and Dodge Viper are leased......go ahead and steal them, I have gap insurance.

I live on an island, accessible only by boat or air. Keeps out the riff-raff.

I don't think we've had a car stolen here in years - there's no easy way to get a stolen vehicle off the island without getting caught.

i got a '96 vette w/the factory VATS system, would be difficult to steal it, short of loading it on a flatbed truck, imho, its one of the few american cars w/semi acceptable anti theft measures.......has the chip in the key and the fob , w/out the fob, the alarm goes off even w/the key, so its good i think, and what i have read seems to be favorable....it seems most that are stolen are first disabled by slamming a long screwdiver/punch/etc into the battery from the left side thru the gill panel on the side, punching a hole in the battery and draining it of fluid, and i guess, ifg ya are a thief, killing it, and then putting it on a trailer, i know ya can buy steel plates that fit over your battery to foil that, but wow, if they want it, they will get it.....

my only thought is if you do steal it, please total it, i dont want it back, lol

Actually thieves like older cars to... I've had our 1971 Ford stolen from a Park and Ride, but it was later recovered about a block from the Park and Ride and with only an empty tank of gas, I guess we lucked out. The truck was in the process of being restored (interior was in great condition, exterior was stripped of all emblems and was getting prepped to paint), so it wasn't anything special or worth stealing.

On our '03 Acura we have the little chip embedded in the key so only a key with that transmitor can start the engine. It's got the basic alarm also...what the salesguy said was basically if a thief wanted the car he would have to load it on a flatbed truck because that's the only way it would go anywhere.

On my friends Honda he has a remote alarm with an LCD screen and a picture of the car on the remote that shows what part of the car has been comprimised. So say someone is trying to steal your wheels, the alarm will go off and on the remote the wheels will start flashing. It also has a remote kill switch and also remote start. Pretty cool but the range is kinda short and gets shorter if it has to go through walls of a building.

I'll give you some advice on a poor man's anti-theft
system...it's a bit of a pain but it works well and
costs nothing. Thieves rarely can beat this because they
are moving fast and scared. Simply open your hood and
disconnect the positive battery cable!!! Yes, it's hard
to do it everytime, but if you are in some creepy area
or your vehicle is gonna sit in 'long term parking' for
awhile it beats nuttin' honey. I believe Auto Zone even
has a switch you can splice into the cable to make it
faster and easier...anyway, the cost is right and few
theives will think to ck underneath your hood..:p

agree disconnecting the + batt term works, but ya gotta reset radio/etc - on my old car ('72 Z/28) i had a wire running from the neg side of the coil to a toggle switch hidden in the console, and i could shut off the power to the coil w/this, usually would take too long for a croook to find it imho, and it sure wont start. lots of people now do the same w/a wire to diconnect the juice to the elec fuel pump.......ya just have to remember to turn it on/off as needed
