Thorn zits, splinters, white pus with red cuts, we all get them. Even the prom queen in the flower garden gets cut every once in a while. I would like anyone to share horror stories about infections. It will be a great tool to us all. Don’t be shy, I’ll be the first to jump.

Here is a picture of my slight eye infection from the camp fire the other night. Despite the normal precautions taken to flush the foreign body out, that little booger stayed in there. Screwed up my whole weekend plan. Due to a dust particle, I sustained an abraded cornea, but with antibiotics, it healed within a few days.

After I got snipped a couple years back, I had an infection run rampant down my legs from point of surgery. 2 shock treatments of antibiotics cured it though. How's that for "Not Shy"?

yikes joe... that is making my eyes water just looking at that pic...

i just got over areally nasty stye in my right eye... those things suck...:thumbdn:
a few years back, my wife got a metal shaving lodged in her eye... that was a bad one too... it could have been really bad...:o

aaahhhh mike.. whay did you have to go and say that dude...:o i have been debating on joining the "snipper club"..

I have an odd tolerance for anesthesia, and it wore of half way through. Dude, it was still worth it.

Moldy tattoo. Big tribal that goes from wrist to elbow started to burn. The following day my arm was twice the size and cherry red. Dunno if the burning was just down to the infection but one had to wonder how much give my skin had before it burst. Aside from feeling a bit green it clearly required a medical intervention. Strolled over to the hospital 'cos driving was out and that was that. I was admitted on the spot and in there for weeks. Even when I felt better I still had to stay there for weeks. So dull. I had to keep carrying my drip outside like an umbrella to get a bit of skunk in. Because it was a tribal it was fascinating to watch jigsaw like sections being removed over the period of a few days. It took about a year to heal up properly as the wound ripped down divots thicker than some of the knives I see posted here. Best description is kinda like a tattoo, a brand, and an emboss all wound into one. It's flattened out now 'cos that was a while back. I'll get round to having it inked again sometime. Ew, you know you're in trouble when even nurses with their fat ankles and in their overalls start to look attractive.

i'm glad to say that i haven't had any infections to date. i do what i can to keep my cuts etc clean and taken care of, and haven't had any surgeries or got odd things in my eye...

I get ingrown toenails pretty fierce sometimes. I was taking a break hiking a few years back and decided to pick out my toe jam with a pocket knife. Bad mistake. Lesson learned: don't f%ck with the toes unless I am at home, with soap, water, rubbing alcohol and a couch nearby.

Aaah!

I can't stand having anything in my eyes - not even contacts. The thought of an abraded cornea makes me squirm. Ugh.

I have had stitches, gashes, and scrapes galore, but no serious infections. The closest I have come was two years back, when I was spending a weekend at a cottage in Muskoka with old friends. It was boat access only, and the fishing was good. Anyway, thanks to too much sun and too much beer, I slipped with my knife while cutting an onion and sliced my left index finger, leaving a deep cut. Blood everywhere. And onion juice in the cut, which was all kinds of fun. After a short conversation with friends, it was decided that stitches were definitely necessary. But taking me to the hospital would have wrecked the weekend for everyone, so I made the executive decision to simply bandage my finger up and hope for the best. Fortunately, I had plenty of gauze and medical tape in my PSK. Unfortunately, I wrapped things a little too tight.

That night while we were enjoying some fish around the table (the bass had been going for the spinners and top bait all day), one of my friends asked to see the cut. I unwrapped the bandages, only to discover that the entire tip of my finger was cold, numb, blue-black, and damn near dead from lack of blood flow. Not fun. Corrective steps were taken, and the problem was resolved (meaning, feeling and blood flow returned). If I had left it overnight, I would have lost the finger for sure.

This whole experience was very unusual. I am typically extremely careful with knives, and I chalk the whole thing up to poor judgement. The cut healed in time, leaving a big V-shaped scar on my finger, a bit of a divot, and a tiny bit of nerve damage in the area.

Ultimately, the fishing was good, and I was able to salvage the onion.

All the best,

- Mike

I have a wisdom tooth that needs to be extracted, but I keep not getting around to it. Every once in a while the gum on the outside side of it gets infected. It hurts like hell to eat for a few days, but then that ceases to be much of a worry because the swelling makes it so I can hardly open my mouth. 500mg of clavulin 3x a day knocks it out in a week or so. :thumbdn:

I know this isn't a infection, but more like injuries. Between the compound fracture of my right arm, dislocation of my shoulder, and having my German Shepard claw poke my right eyeball. (I was blind in one eye for almost 3 months and cloudy for 6 more.) I really can't figure out what hurts the most.
As for infections in the bush? I had my left hand get stabbed really good by a catfish that made my hand swell for week. Boy does that really hurt!

That eye looks awful. Take care of it.

My worst infection came after a dog bite. I tried to get him out of a trap. Got my index finger pretty good. Infection got to the bone. Almost lost the finger. Spent five days in the hospital.

Those catfish fins hurt like hell. Ive laid in the bottom of the boat in agony a couple of times.

Infected Bursitis in my knee that went septic, four days in the hospital and 6 rounds of antibiotics to kill it.

Ain't Diabetes fun!

My brother slid into a base playing softball, and scaped the leg up some. We washed it out and when we got home cleaned it out good with piroxide and alcohol. Thought it was all right until he ended up in the hospital on the verge of loosing His leg to a staph infection. One week in the hospital with two IV's and antibiotics, He was lucky he didn't loose the leg. I will never treat a dirty cut lightly ever again.

I had a thorn puncture my left index finger on day one of a week long trip. By day three my finger looked like I had a marble in it. It was so swollen I couldn't bend my finger. I lanced the boil with the blade from my snake-bite kit and it drained well. Mac

I must be a dirty sod because I hardly ever get anything infected.

Reasoning: My body is so used to dirt that it fights bugs off without even blinking.

That said, I've recently developed a problem wisdom tooth too :(

It's funny, I've had stitches without anesthetic, broken bones, a cut that went into the bone from one of my first knives, blisters on my feet during distance hikes so deep that my socks were soaked in blood, and I still get shaky when I think of the dentist. But then, this is England and dentistry is still performed by Neanderthals with pliers and chisels.
