you're going into the woods and you have to choose...

Didn't realize that you've used one before.:foot: But I would be interested to why you didn't mention that in your first post, instead of saying that you didn't own one, but a RC5 instead.

BTW, love your picture in your signature. Plus, I think my favorite college team, plays your favorite college team this weekend. Go Hawks!:D

Well, I figured since I only got to use it for about an hour or so, I didn't use it to the best of it's extent. So I mention the RC5 due to similar qualities.

We aren't doing good this year. We are barely beating teams we should be crushing. Need to choose a QB and stick with him. :)

if you were going into the woods with your nice sharp Swedish-made camp axe or favorite tomahawk to process fatwood, or if you're dealing with really gnarly knotty woods, I'd much rather beat a knife that's intended for abuse than destroy a keen bushcrafting axe's edge. Again, they have their purposes, the beauty with the BK2 is you can afford one in addition to a Mora and a Hultafors hatchet, so again I really don't see what all the debate is about. Use the right tool for the intended job.
Afford as in price and not weight? I wouldn't carry all that steel on a hike of any length. Of course I wouldn't carry either if the hike was long enough. :D

And the debate is if the BK2 IS the right tool for the job. To some it is and others it isn't. I don't think it'll be resolved. People like what they like and that's cool. Now the best of both worlds is if a guy like you carrying a BK2 hikes with a guy like me who carries an axe. Best of both worlds. So maybe the moral of the story is to bring a sherpa...I mean buddy with you. ;)

Shotgun, I like the way your thinking!!

Yes, I have never owned a BK2. But I have owned many knives that are quite similar to the BK2, including a BlackJack Becker Campanion. If you want to chop with a steak knife you can, but it's not going to be an efficient as a hatchet.

Of course the Becker Forum is going to be full of pro becker opinions. It's the BECKER FORUM! :D

Yeah but I stole the idea from the military. There's a reason they have guys carrying all different kinds of gear. Gives the unit a lot more depth in capability.

I learned that trick in scouts years ago, you just reminded me of it today. :) Bet my scout leaders learned it in the Military... Back then one person would bring the shelter the other the cooking stuff (2 person mess kit, stove, fuel). Saves weight and diplicating a lot of gear that doesn't need to be. Thanks for the reminder!!

Haha, she is gorgeous to be sure-I did earn mucho brownie points for staying behind though

Sorry bro, I have some bad news for you.

She probably had her keys with her the whole time and was hoping you'd make a move.

Oh, this isn't the relationship advice forum, sorry.

I'd take the axe and just the axe. My Gransfors mini is lighter than the BK2 and probably chops just as well, maybe even better. It also does fine work very well. I can clean a fish or small game with a stone flake without any trouble and the Mini can handle larger game on its own.
