Hi all,I didn't like the sharpness level of my out of the box stretch 2,so I

re-profiled the edge down from 40 degrees to 30.I got a nice polished edge

on it with my sharpmaker working from diamonds to ultra fine. The edge was

great looking without any burs.It still wasn't as sharp as I was

expecting from a hard powdered steel.I have got all kinds of steel hair popping

sharp by using my method," is their something I don't know about this steel",

or maybe there is something wrong with the heat treat.Help me:o.does zdp

not take a kean edge?,well I know it can hold a working edge for a long time.

Oh I also have to say I was getting micro-chipping during my last sharpening

stages.:jerkit:

thx gine.

My experience with ZDP-189 has led me to believe that it is very easy to use too much pressure when sharpening. At RC 65, it feels like it is just sliding across the hone (I sharpen on diamond hones almost exclusively), which can sucker me into pressing down harder so I can feel the abrasive biting into the steel. The results were not good. It developed a burr that got bent back and forth until it broke off, leaving a relatively flat edge. When I backed off the pressure and just slid the blade across the hone lightly, the results were much better. Even though it didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything I was able to get a clean edge that cuts like crazy and last a good long while.

My Caly Jr, Caly ZDP and Endura ZDP could all whittle hair.

Factory edge Endura:

Or watch it cut cardboard here.

I use diamond stones to sharpen my ZDP and haven't seen any microchipping under 100x magnification.

I reprofiled my ZDP Endura and Delica and they are now extremely aggressive cutters. I used all diamond hones except for a finishing sapphire hone. I believe "scary" is the word.

I'm happy.

Thanks yab!!I will try your method.I think pressing to hard would explain

the chipping and dullness.I will give zdp another go:thumbup:
