Zebra Billy Cans....

if one happened to be in canada, and was near a TISOL pet supply store, one might find SS billy cans ranging from 1 liter to 10 liters......... they are feed cans with heavy wire bails.

cant post prices, but they are wallet friendly

Good Day,

Any of you all have a Zebra Billy Can?

I am trying to decide on one...

I have smaller pans, which can be sort of frail.... spun aluminium with non-stick coatings....

So, I am thinking that I want larger...

They come in... 26, 44, 64 and 100 ounce capacities...

I don't know, what do you all think?

Any other thoughts on pots, billy cans, or Zebra (not the equine like mammal)....?

Marion

I bought the smallest one by mail order but found it doesn't have a bail; just a coffee mug-style handle on the side. That limits its usefullness....

But it's still a very nice piece of gear and seems to be of high quality. I carry it in my cold weather daypack with a package of Ramen noodles and other goodies stuffed inside.

Esbit tabs blacken the bottom but the nicely polished stainless steel surface allows the soot to be easily cleaned off. The knob on the lid is way larger than I think it needs to be, adding a tiny bit of extra weight (and making it look more like something that belongs in the kitchen instead of in a pack).

Thanks. I appreciate you relaying that.

You're welcome!

It was insufficient product research on my part. Apparently, at least the smallest one (10cm or 26oz.) is available with a choice of loop handle (bail) or side handle, like the one I bought.

I'm guessing most folks here would prefer the bail for hanging over a fire.

The Zebra pots seemed to be hard to find for a while, but I noticed Ben's Backwoods has them in stock again.

Yeah, they were out of stock for quite awhile at Ben's Backwoods, but he just recently got them back in. I just ordered from him, but did not get one... Probably next time, my brother and I both want one. I have decided to go with the 100oz, as it's utility goes up with size, and I don't have to fill it all the way when I use it, but more capacity gives me more options.

Talking about the utility of the stainless, I am looking forward to being able to pack things in it, without worrying about scratching a coating. I would probably find a stuff sack that fills it, and use it for food and utensils.

As to that small one, I noticed that. And I would agree, I want this as a billy, not as a stove pan. Though, if it had both, that could be good....
