Zero Tolerance 0300 durability

If you have an early model with out a detent sell it and buy a new one that has a detent. Problem solved.

well i guess my worries are stupid lol. looks like ill be getting it soon. I'm just going to wait awhile for the new updated model get in stock at my local store here. and yes i buy in a actual store not online because i like to support the local guys and plus i can actually feel what I'm about to spend a couple hundred bucks on.

Have fun with it.
Easily as tough as a Strider, CRK or other beefy framelocks.
Enjoy it, have fun with it and save a good 50$ getting one here.
:)

Here's what the Kershaw FAQ says:

IS THERE A DIFFERENT STYLE OF POCKETCLIP THAT WILL FIT MY KNIFE?
We're sorry, but the only style of pocketclip that will fit your knife is the pocketclip that was on it when you purchased it. We can replace your pocketclip, but it will be with the same style that was originally on it.

CAN I HAVE A PART SENT TO ME?
We can send you screws, pocketclips, torsion bars, safety lock sets, the pivot bolt and screws, and handle screws for USA-made knives. We cannot send blades, handle scales, liners, etc. If you need a blade, more than one part, or parts other than those we can ship, please send your knife in for warranty service. If you want us to ship you screws, a pocketclip, a torsion bar, a safety lock set, a pivot bolt and screws, or handle screws for your USA-made Kershaw knife, please contact us to request parts. Remember that parts are specific to each knife model, so please make sure the model number is included in your request for parts. You can locate the four-digit model number (for example, 1660) on the blade or handle. If your knife was NOT made in the USA (check the blade), then we do not have parts in stock and you will need to send the knife in for warranty service.

My zt0300 has been majorly abused and I still have absolutely no blade play and the edge is still fine. I recommend the 0300 series to anyone.

The person at the beginning saying the Adamas is a better hard use knife obviously has never handled or used a 0300.

Also, I can say for a 100% fact that my torsion bar did "break" and that it still holds the knife closed and works as a detent.

It did not just crack in half and fail, but merely had a stress fracture that made it so I had to give it more of a flick to open.

It still functioned fine.

Not only that but ZT sent me 2 torsion bars within a week of contacting them. Great customer service!

oh and whats a thread without pictures?

I've called zt before and gotten all sorts of parts.

I even buggered up some torx heads on my 0801. Called zt and admitted it was my mistake, offered to pay for new ones and the guy said no problem and shipped me out a whole bunch for free. My experience with ZT cs had been very positive.

My experience with the 0300 with a broken torsion bar is different. I especially disagree with the part stating: "It's still provide some detent action and still kick the blade out, but you might need a little flip of the wrist to get it to fully open". That is simply not true in case of the 0300.

You're right, I just made it up to be funny:rolleyes:

Why don't you tell me how your torsion bar failure went rather then tell me that mine and the many others I've seen are "simply not true".

Okay, good to know. I am more concerned about it not having a detent hole. I really wish it did so I could de-assist it. If the spring ever goes, I will have a detent hole put in.

You don't have to wait till the assist goes, just get an engraving bit for a dremel and use the track the detent ball makes to find where you need the hole. Go slow, it's real easy.

Edit:
Oh, look, sounds like a soft failure, guess it's "simply not true" as well:rolleyes:

I have a 301 and have had zero problems with anything except the rattle that develops when the torsion bar grease dries up or wears back from use. I did contact KAI about the rattle and was told to either send it in or just touch it up with some fresh grease. The warranty is covered either way I deceid to go. During my contact with them they got my address and sent a couple sets of screws, washers, pivot parts and torsion bars. Once I got over my fear of opening the knife up it was so easy to do I felt like wimp for worrying at all. Like some of the other Guys here, I don't abuse my knife or actual mis-use any tool I own so I can't see my 301 failing me anytime soon.

I have yet to see a stand-out weak point to the ZT collection...if you're really worried about an SHTF situation then get a 0550 or 0560 they open like they're assisted but they aren't. No torsion bar worries ever again.
Or like someone said above drill a detent hole or get a model with a detent de assist and you are good to go.
