Zero Tolerance 0400

I have held one and played with it for a little while. it feels with a blur on steroids. it has a flipper and the plain aluminum on the clip side, which increases the survivability of your pocket. the assistance is a smooth as butter. overall, great knife. IMAO, it is better with plain edge, but ymmv. Also, it can be had for 100 from kershawguy.

Personally I'm not fond of Tantos, but if the 0400 is anything like the other ZTs I own, it should be an excellent knife. You might want to check with kershawguy over in the Exchange dealers section before you buy from Amazon. He can beat pretty much any price and is a good guy to buy from.

Yes. It is a very nice knife. It follows the form and function of all other ZT knives. Do a search on the forums to see what other people have said about them. I will say forget about ordering any knives from Amazon unless you feel like your life is a little too calm. If you feel like gambling, go buy a scratcher ticket. I wish people would stop buying the crap Amazon sells and buy from a real knifeshop. The money you save in shipping will end up costing you in frustrations later. Search for unhappy Amazon customers in the forums, you will see what I mean.

Hmm I have had very good experiences with amazon including knife purchases.Never had a problem with any knife I bought from them.

I paid $80 for mine from here in the classifieds. :D

That being said, the tanto blade is not really my thing.

It's a terrific knife, like others have said "a blur on steriods." Pick a blem up from Dave (kershawguy).

Would you guys say the benchmade onslaught is better? I have had my eye on that one as well.

No I would not. They are 2 completely different knives designed for different tasks. Not better, just different.

The 400 is the only ZT I own and I understand that the guy who desgned it was let go, because the 400 doesn't fit in at all with all the stubby ,ugly models that comprise the rest of the ZT line-up. [okay I exaggerate somewhat; the dagger and the 100 are pretty cool as well]

I think this point is fundamentally true--they're so different as to be essentially incomparable as knives.

However, we can compare materials and locks--I'd take the G10 over the aluminum/griptape, and the axis lock over the liner lock.

But the Onslaught is HUGE. You need to handle one in real life before you buy this thing because it is shocking in person.

And again, back to RedDevil's point, they're just not in the same category. Theoretically, a Ferrari 430 is "better" than Toyota Landcruiser, if one looks at the spec sheet (materials, horsepower and so on), but if you need a family car, you need the Landcruiser.

He was not let go. He actually designed the 0200 and the 0300 which are part of your "stubby, ugly, group." Yes, you're exaggerating. :thumbdn:

You're saying that Ken Onion is a bad knife designer?

Ok maybe a better question would be which one is stronger and more of a user.

The onslaught is almost certainly tougher due to its sheer size/thickness and its axis lock. But honestly, these are both extremely tough knives and I wouldn't worry at all about the reliability of the 0400. It's not really a fair comparison due to the size difference though. You'd do better to compare the MUDD to the Onslaught in overall toughness. The MUDD is a total beast. Even then, however, I'd bet on the Onslaught.

The issues you should focus on for your decision are the blade shape (the 0400 has a really radical blade shape, which I love personally but many hate), handle materials, which lock do you prefer, is assisted opening important to you and which do you think looks best. And, of course, will you really carry around a giant mega knife like the Onslaught.

The onslaught has a much thinner blade than the ZT series. You'd be able to pry just fine with an 0400 with its reinforced tip, not so with the onslaught.

Gunk in the axis lock won't make that knife happy either. It also has smooth G-10 -- not conducive to a solid grip.

Lastly, BM has a silly warranty. Zero Tolerance has a no-BS policy.
