Zero Tolerance 0562 vs. Benchmade Adamas 275 for camping folder?

I want a burly folder for camping. Probably won't be carried in pocket for long periods of time but will get stuffed in the occasional day pack. Might occasionally end up in a small range bag when I go shooting in the bush. Which would you choose and why? ZT0562 vs. Benchmade Adamas 275

I prefer the Adamas for it's ergos. Nice, broad handle, no abrasive G10 texturing and comfortable in a number of grips. It actually works quite well for chest lever cuts, which is a nice bonus.

If you aren't going to carry in your pocket, a fixed blade would be the better choice. You can pick up some really nice blades for the cost of either of those knives. Just sayin'.

Ya I agree. I just don't like having to constantly re-sheath the knife when not in use. I have small children and would like a folder so I can stuff it in and out of my pocket when using it. I have an ESEE3 and an ESEE6 for my fixed blade duties. I was just wanting add a camp folder to the collection.

I can not speak to the benchmade but I don't consider the 562 to be burly. It is one of the thinner blades made by ZT. While I still think it would suit all your needs, I just don't think of it as burly. I guess all of that depends upon what the words burly knife means to a person.

For what you are looking to pay for either of those, I'd highly suggest looking at a fixed blade.

If you can score something like a Survive! Knives GSO 4.1 (they pop up pretty often on the For Sale by Individuals forum) that would probably be the only "camp knife" you'll ever need.

I don't own the adamas but have fondled it. I do own the 0562, and for what your wanting, I'd choose the adamas. I think the beefier blade and the axis lock would be the better choice since it's going in a pack anyway.

The Adamas is much bigger/heavier (7.7 oz) than the ZT0562 (5.5 oz), and not really pocketable at all. A better comparison would be the ZT0560 (or 0561). Comparable blade size, but the ZT is 2 oz lighter (5.8 oz) and you can actually fit it in a pocket. Plus Elmax is better in the weather than D2. I have a ZT0561 and find it extremely solid and well-made, and a bargain for all the technology packed into it.

Of the 0562, 0561 and the Adamas. I would get the Adamas to beat on or the 0561. The 0562 is not slouch but just doesnt scream beat on me like the other two. The manix XL is also a nice choice.
Of the bunch the 0562 would process wood the best, but IMO it needs a custom scale in G10 or micarta to aid the grip a bit for outdoor use or wet hands instead of the CF.

I have both blades they are all great but the Adamas is one burly beast of a blade. The 0562 is a solid knife either way but go for the Adamas if you want a beast.

The 0560 series actually weighs in at 6.4oz. A while back they stopped milling the Ti slab which increased weight.

As for OP's question, I would go for the 0562. The materials you get are better overall and ELMAX is generally better than D2. You already mentioned you have an ESEE 3 and 6, so unless you plan on putting those to the side while you batton with your folder, I can't see any reason you would need something as heavy as the Adamas. Also, given the higher grind of the 0562 it will slice better. And contrary to what Whitty posted, the stock thickness on the 0562 is the same most other ZT's (0.160") which is also the same as the Adamas.

Though my opinion may be slightly biased because I love me some ZT's.

i LOVE zt and benchmade, but from your requirement, you can look at the cold steel recon 1 spear point

stainless D2 in cts-xhp, thick blade, insane lockup, all in a 5oz package

fwiw, I don't own any CS folders but the xhp introduced in 2015 is getting my attention

Neither of those is really a dedicated "outdoor" knife and both will give about the same service level in camp.

If you want a tough outdoor folder at a reasonable price look at a DPx HEST 2.0.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that! What a bad choice! Glad I got my 2 0560s before they decided to do that. Oh, and before they were discontinued!

I don't think the Recon 1 with the upgraded steel is available in a Spear point. Correct me if I am wrong, please! If it were it would be in my pocket now!

To the original question, neither! I have had the Adamas. While it is a burly folder, the handle is far to big and thick for the blade length you get. Considering that, a fixed blade would be a better option. You already have capable fixed blades for camping. Part of the fun of fixed blades is taking them in and out of the sheath! Teach you kids to be save around knives (this is what I have done). If you really want a folder, get something that doesn't duplicate the abilities of your fixed blades; something for detailed work. For this I use a PM2. Great one hand operation!

Don't own a 0562 but have 2 0560's and 5 275's/ 2750. Between the ZT 0560 and BM 275 it would be a tough call for me which I would choose for a "camp knife" since me personally would also have a fixed blade. I have chopped down 8" tree's with the Adamas and batoned the most knotted wet fire wood there ever was with it also. I can't think of a bad thing to say about it. But also can't say any negatives on the ZT either. Here's some pics of some of the stuff I've done with the Adamas. I have used it for extraordinary stuff just testing it's limits and it keeps asking for more. I did finally break the top stop pin though batoning through a very very hard top of a desk. After batoning the very gnarly wood logs I just uncarefully just wrecklessly beat on batoned it through about 1" through that desk and it finally broke. It was more or less me just trying to break it so I don't blame the pin for busting. And the the best part is is I know that Benchmade will have me covered and replace the pin for free! The 275 was my first expensive folder and I am very glad I choose it over others. I now have 5. Like others said not super pocket friendly but I always wear the Benchmade Molle folder sheath and I don't even notice I have the 275 with me. Have only had the 0560 a short while (maybe a month) but it also seems like it could handle almost the same things as the 275. I have more Benchmades though than any other knife company cause they have the best warrarties of any company I know of. Blade replacements for $30-35, free clips screws, and just very fast, kind, customer service. I honestly would just get both and see which you like better cause you know your gonna have to try both anyways.;) Good luck with everything.

I'm leaning this direction. Thanks.

Thanks for all the tips people! I actually have more blades than I need so a big part of this purchase is definitely the knife addiction. Point being, I don't necessarily need another knife for an intended purpose, I WANT another knife and am assigning it purpose to justify the money in my head. I'm sure many of you can relate!

The standard 0562 has Elmax blade and G10 scale. The 0562CF has M390 blade and Carbon Fiber scale
