Zero Tolerance 0562 vs. Benchmade Adamas 275 for camping folder?

Teach you kids to be save around knives (this is what I have done). If you really want a folder, get something that doesn't duplicate the abilities of your fixed blades; something for detailed work. For this I use a PM2. Great one hand operation!

Thanks. Point taken. My kids are learning to be safe around knives and guns... But I still don't like leaving them unattended. Safety runs two ways in my opinion. As for sheath carry, I've literally handmade dozens of sheaths in numerous designs and I still don't enjoy having a fixed blade on my belt. On a side note I have a tutorial on this forum for those interested.

Great recommendation on the pm2! Got one, love it. I use it for outdoor activities all the time. Like any blade addict, I would like to add options to my collection.

Don't own a 0562 but have 2 0560's and 5 275's/ 2750. Between the ZT 0560 and BM 275 it would be a tough call for me which I would choose for a "camp knife" since me personally would also have a fixed blade. I have chopped down 8" tree's with the Adamas and batoned the most knotted wet fire wood there ever was with it also. I can't think of a bad thing to say about it. But also can't say any negatives on the ZT either. Here's some pics of some of the stuff I've done with the Adamas. I have used it for extraordinary stuff just testing it's limits and it keeps asking for more. I did finally break the top stop pin though batoning through a very very hard top of a desk. After batoning the very gnarly wood logs I just uncarefully just wrecklessly beat on batoned it through about 1" through that desk

Well it looks like you are definitely the leading expert on Adamas toughness! You batoned a desk? That's awesome.

Yup, it is an addiction! In that case, I would go for the ZT. Like I said above, the Adamas just felt to big for the amount of blade length you get, it is no doubt a fine and very tough knife though. I liked my ZT 0560s, 550, and 301 much more and never carried the Adamas.

Attempted too. Didn't make it very far. ;) It was the top of the desk and was incredibly hard. I don't know what the black coating on it was but think that's what did the Adamas in. I would just get both man and a ZT 0560. You know your gonna try them all. :D If I had to choose between the 0560 and 275 at the moment it would be a very hard choice. Also you might like the Spyderco Vallotton. I do.

I like ZTs better in general, but I like the idea of a sheath that can be attached to a backpack strap, so I bought a 275 for outdoor purposes. I also like the ergonomics better for when wearing gloves.

I have the 0561, and have handled the Adamas numerous times. I'd get the 0561 over the 0562 or Adamas personally. Considering all three are in the same price range, it just seems you get more with the ZT's.

If you're going to use it hard, one thing that I noticed when I took my 0562 apart was how super thin the wall of the pivot was. There's almost no material between the outside of the pivot and hollow threaded interior. I'd imagine the bearings help take off some of the lateral load on the pivot and it would probably never fail under normal everyday use but if I was looking for something to beat on the pivot would not inspire confidence.

I would not consider the ZT 0562 to be "big and burly" like the Benchmade Adamas certainly is. The Adamas is a handful and it is tough. If you are looking for a ZT that is "big and burly" you should look at the 0300...

Whit over at USA Made Blades has good deals on the ZTs...

Both are great knives, but personally I consider them to be in different classes as far as size and use. The Adamas is an absolute beast of a knife!

I had a ZT 0560 and that was a good camp knife. Ive never handled a 275, but my new camp knife is a BM Contego and I think its going to be great. Its a beast of a knife, but still folds up nicely in the pocket. Its too big to carry for me as an EDC though and Im not what anyone would consider a small guy. Elmax didn't really impress me. I haven't tested the CPM M4 but I hear impressive things. I use an ESEE 5 as my fixed blade camp knife. I will also never baton any knife. I have some sort of ax or hatchet for things like that.

i LOVE zt and benchmade, but from your requirement, you can look at the cold steel recon 1 spear point

CS Recon 1 (4") or Mini Recon 1 (3") in G10 with Triad Lock and, new for 2015, CTS-XHP steel.

I don't think the Recon 1 with the upgraded steel is available in a Spear point. Correct me if I am wrong, please! If it were it would be in my pocket now!

If you look at the photo in the new CS catalog, isn't that a Spear Pt right next to the Clip Pt?

And it WILL be in my pocket when they're released!

Adamas is a brute and has a safer lock. The 562 closes so quick it took rhe skin off the tip of my pinky!! Very clean cut though . . .

Great point. I have found this to be the case of many so-called "hard use" knives.

Love the 562 as a large EDC knife, but for a beefy ZT folder just to keep in your bag when needed, I would look at the ZT 200. I own both and the 200 is not really pocket friendly, but it is built very well and will handle anything that a folder should be expected to handle and more. Also look at the ZT 300 series.

If you haven't help the adamas I suggest you you see one in person before buying. I found it didn't click with my hand too well

I really enjoy my 0562 as an EDC, but it would not be my first choice for a duty/work knife, 0300 would be it for a "pocket friendly" knife and I really consider the 0300s and 0560s right on the edge of that. Kinda surprised that the 0300s and 0200s didn't come up sooner...
