Zero Tolerance 0920 - Just Not Right

I've also had bad luck with ZT recently. It took me several tries to get a 0456cf without chips in carbon fiber scale. All the examples I handled had very uneven edges. I bought from knife center too and they were patient with me to a point. I live about an hour away and they eventually just told me to come visit them if the last example wasn't good. Also had a bad experience with the 0909 model. Again ordered from knife center, but both examples I handled had uncentered blades and bearings that I could feel and hear when opening and closing. Tried playing with the pivot and adding oil, non of which helped. I really wanted to like that model too bc it reminded me of old school ZTs. The example I settled on is now a glovebox knife. If I didn't get it on the discontinued discount, I would have returned it. It sad bc my old ZT's like the 0301, 0200, and 0350 all came perfect with no needed for back and forth returns. Unless they release something really captivating, I'm done with the company for now.

I've had zero issues. Luck of the draw I guess.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I've ordered the majority of my knives from Knifeworks, although I've had good experience with KnivesShipFree and a replacement I had to do with DLT Trading (some other sponsored online dealers experiences were too few for me to comment, or had slight issues with the knvies I didn't think were that big of a deal therefore won't mention here). Some of these dealers, i.e. Knifeworks have a comment section when purchasing that allows you to ask them to personally inspect the knife for whatever you want them to check for (blade centering, tight lockup, scratches, etc.). Personally, I've even had Knifeworks contact me when there was a question about a possible issue with a knife they had one left of that might have had a problem before sending it (it turned out it wasn't a problem, they were just unfamiliar with that part of the design).

I understand that many knife dealers might get returns that pass inspection and might make their way out to a new owner with certain expectations of "newness". It's unfortunate that we have to specifically ask for inspection, but it is something that is within our power and I haven't had an issue with most of my knives when doing this (for the record, I believe this is why I haven't had any QC issues on the ump-teen BM knives I've purchased from KW's).

I hope you recover quickly. Thank you for your service. And be careful related to the folding knife laws in the Philippines. I find it funny watching farmers carry two foot knives through remote villages while it is illegal for me to carry a 3 inch folding knife for random or unplanned cutting tasks when I visit.

I don't get it. Knife Center offered to take the knife back, no questions asked, and send you a replacement; but you were unable to send it back? What is Knife Center supposed to do? Come get it?

Those are really tough circumstances for you, but I don't see what Knife Center was supposed to do.

Anyone can get a lemon and these knife stores sell knives by the zillions, and some come back for the most insignificant issues, driving up costs for the rest of us.

If you're a collector, I can see the issue. But if you are going to use the knife, it seems to be a small deal. There are some great knife makers in the Philippines. Maybe one of them could turn that edge into a cutting machine for you for not much money.

But, dang, hope your back is getting better. A bad back makes everything worse.

Timing sir! I would liked to have sent it back. The Knife Center Customer Service Manager explained it away saying what I had as normal for ZT.
Health issues and a real lack of mobility was not something I could overcome at the time.

I can appreciate your perspective. A ZT had been high on my must have list. I don't know ZT as a brand other than the example I have. No one expects to experience this, I am sure you will agree.

Thanks for your post. The back is better, but will never be 100%! Good days and not so good days. Thanks!

Thanks sir! I don't carry an EDC here for a number of reasons. The very broad and confusing law is the primary one. But I see people with Pocket Clips showing everywhere and the Philippines has a historically well documented blade culture.

Knives are carried by many, but there are myths and misunderstanding of what the law actually is. My greatest concern is having a knife confiscated for nefarious reasons other than a violation of the law or a criminal offense.

It is unlawful to carry outside of one's residence any bladed, pointed or blunt weapon such as "knife", "spear", "pana", "dagger", "bolo", "barong", "kris", or "chako", except where such articles are being used as necessary tools or implements to earn a livelihood or in pursuit of a lawful activity.

A quote from the law:. Philippine Knife Law

I am not an attorney, but always lean towards discretion and caution. "..... in pursuit of a lawful activity" is a broad definition, which an unscrupulous authority can easily bend. Sadly, I think I am in less fearful of a "hold upper" than a officer. Either way your belongings will be taken.

Hi 9 90grains , I don’t have any kind of a solution beyond what people way smarter than I have already offered.

I wanted to simply thank you for your service and wish you a speedy recovery. Hats off to you, Sir.

If you want, I will sharpen it on my KME free of charge. I’ll even clean it up and put fresh oil on the bearing if you want. Shoot me a PM and we can figure it out.

If you email KAI/ZT they’ll send you a new clip for free.

I own three ZT’s, one had three different edge angles from the factory, the other two are even.
