Zero Tolerance 561 Or ....

ZT warranty is as good as is gets.

I can't speak for DPX because I wouldn't be caught dead with one. Please don't ask, just search their now defunct subforum.

Thats enough for me to want to stay away. Wasn't that interested. Just thought they looked good on paper.

I have a NIB DPX HEST 2.0 and it looks pretty decent. It has a sticky lock, but lots of new knives have to get "worn in" a bit before they smooth out. Heck, even my Umnumzaan had a sticky lock when new.
The HEST 2.0 is smaller than my ZT 0550 but has a wider blade. It snaps open like a champ; there's absolutely no blade-wiggle.
I'll probably sell it sometime; I bought it to take a look at it and see how useful it might be.

Saw 0560 next to lionspy today and i liked lionspy more. Felt very comfortable in my hands. Of course comfort can differ person to person but i suggest u try and hold one 1st. I think i will get a lionspy though. The dpx hest is a great folder too for more than $100 less.

Looked at the loinspy, not sure if I would like a thumb hole. All I've used up until this point is thumb studs.

I thought we were settled and then you go and mention that thing? I have a DPX Hest 2.0 and it is nothing like the 0560.

Good or bad ? I'm still pretty set on the 560, just want to go through all the options that have run through my head. Probably going to go through with the 561 purchase in the next couple hour or so.

It's not near as smooth as far as deployment and fit and finish as the ZT. That is good you're looking at all angles and I did the same seeing as I bought the DPX, just go straight to the ZT is my advice. I have a 0560 and a 0561 on the way that's how much I like them.

EDIT - I sound like a paid advertisement but I swear I'm not lol.

It's all good, I came to the general forum to make sure I wasn't getting a fanboy opinion. I know there are alot of options out there, and my criteria is kinda vague. I'm looking for a beast of a folder, with a company that stands behind there stuff 100%.

The only other knives that have blown me away equally and are cheaper would be the spyderco sage 1 and the spyderco Gayle Bradley. The value for the money on those two are incredible. The sage is a smaller blade though.

If you want a larger knife get the 0561, otherwise the 0551 is just about perfect.

I have both too...like the 0550 in some situations better than the 0560. IMO if they (ZT) would sculpt the body/scales on the 0550 like that on the 0560 the 0550 would be perfect. Both are wonderful knives that are manufactured with incredible fit and finish ... IMO

Both are beautiful knives, definitely are on my list.

Can't seem to find any videos of people using them hard.

Agree with 5.56. ZT warranty is as good as it gets. I stripped the head to the pivot screw and ZT had one in the mail to me promptly. I have a 550, 551, 560, and 561 all are wonderful. I carry the 550 most b/c I have a hinderer scale in translucent green on it. I'm a minority to say I like the 550 better than the 560-561. In your price range Lionsteel is going to have a D2 blade, zt will have elmax, or s35vn in the case of the 550.

What did you decide?

I just found one on ebay for a good price... ...I've been keeping an eye out off and on so when I saw one I jumped on it. Then I find out that EVERYBODY has them now. I would have ordered from kershawguy if I had known he had them (for the same price too).

Oh well, the ebayer had good feedback and it was the same price. Hopefully Kershaw will take care of me if I get a lemon.

And if you're talking yourself out of the 561... ...Have you checked out a Benchmade Adamas 275? They are a cool knife and seem to meet the requirements of what you're looking for. Benchmade is a good company and they've been coming out with one good knife after another lately.

I tell ya I have had the benchmades, spydercos and so on just got a zt 561 . Hands down the best knife I have ever had. I like it so much I ordered a 560 just to carry it.The 561 is# 0050 so its going to be a safe gueen. This knife is so smooth. Hope ZT Makes a smaller version some day.

ha I did it in reverse. Got a 0560 since 0561's were harder to come by at that time. Neither of mine will see a safe however.

Ended up picking up a 561 off a dealer from here who had a bunch in stock. Should be in my hands this afternoon. Super excited, might have to head home early after ups gets there.

Hope you like yours as well as I like mine... ...I can now see what all the hype is about, it's a great knife.

Loving mine, but would love to see a smaller version of it... perhaps 20% so it could be the ultimate EDC kick ass knife.

I sampled the 0560 and 0550. I'm not a huge flipper fan, and for the weight the 055x just felt more solid, and more molded to my hand.
Not that the 056x feels light or weak, but, when open, the 055x feels like an ideal smaller-sized fixed-blade to me. Plus it opens smooth as glass.
I just got my 0551 last week - lovin' it!

I agree. The first knives that come to mind as being a better value for the money than the 560 are the Sages and the Gayle Bradley. The Gayle Bradley especially. Neither are anything like the 560, except for the GB being a hard use knife (while being a beautiful custom looking gentleman's type folder and a better slicer/cutter as well), but I think the 560 is a good value and the Bradley is one of the knives that I definitely think of that could be used for most of the same things and is a GREAT value. If you don't mind paying $100 more for the 560, though, it's a great choice. One of the very best knives you can get without getting into CRK price ranges.
