Zero Tolerance and Strider

Thanks for the intelligent replies, I am still as confused as hell. I am leaning a bit towards the "an SMF can't be twice the knife a 0551 is" field, but I still got one hell of
a soft spot for an SMF. Sort of like the forbidden fruit type a thing...

Been there and done that, I ended up getting the SMF and im very glad I did. I do not leave the house without it, no matter where I go the SMF is with me..the bad part is, none of my other knives have been carried since getting the SMF 3 years ago.

Striders are very desirable, even used. If that's the one you really want, and you can afford to try, buy it and if you don't like it, sell it for a $20 loss or something. It's a low risk proposition.

For me, I'll stick to the ZTs for now.

I've carried a ZT301 a bit here and there...dont get me wrong ,very impressed...got a smf coming...wonder which one Im grabing more in the edc rounds.

Good thread, gave me a feel of it.

I'll take a stab and say probably the easiest knife to carry with the most useful blade profile for EDC.

My Strider stepped up while my ZT0551 is on it's way back to ZT for repairs.

Again - value is perception.

For a lot of people - owning a Breitling makes no sense when a Timex will perform the same function at a lot less price.

That same crowd will also feel that driving to work in a Lamborghini makes no sense when a Toyota will suffice.

If you are on a tight budget and are using rent money to buy knives - then there are a LOT of alternatives to a Strider that will keep you in the good graces of your landlord.

If you are a knife nut like me and have a little discretionary fund, and want to have the experience - then it may be worth it to you.

I don't think that analogy is totally accurate in this case. This is more like a Lamborghini vs a Mitsubishi EVO or Nissan GTR. Some of us are looking for high value stuff and not cheap stuff (objective performance). A Gerber and a strider are both knives and both get sharp and cut stuff, but a Gerber is not as functional specification wise to a strider (strength, materials ect). A ZT302 on the other hand has all the materials and specs of a strider and surpassing it in some ways even in strength, but for some they want that sorta "strider feel" or be in the strider owners club. Hence why you have the Bradley Alias or Skirmish guys against the Sebenza guys.

What do you think the lock strength is on one of those? The espada can hold 600 pounds without a lock failure. I'm just saying..to charge that price for a tactical folder it should be very very strong.

strength was never a problem for modern locking systems. Reliability was the issue. Do field testing, see what comes out of it, but do I care how much the tri-ad lock can hold? Not even a little. Now, seeing if it's subject to the same wear/fatigue failures as other lockbacks over the next couple of years, that'll be interesting.

I won't buy one either way because they're a pain to operate.
