Zero Tolerance folder reviews

the point is, you can look at the 300.00 price tag and cringe, or you can look at the detailed texturing of the g10 and titanium (fantastic traction), the speedsafe, that beefy chunk of S30V, and the best of both worlds from strider and ken onion, and know that some things in life are worth the spare change. ;)

That is a nice point of view:cool:. BTW, hats off to you both for the fantastic pictures, as well as, for the precision of your description:thumbup:.

Aside from this, it would be interesting to see how this knife can hold to real use. As many of us know there have been some serious consideration about the "REAL" performance of S30V (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=432116). I used the word "REAL" because clearly on paper S30V looks like an amazing steel made specifically for knives. In reality though a number of users (however, not all of them) have experienced chipping of the edge (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388310). Let's hope this won't be the case here;) .

g, FYI, as a company we have not had chipping issues with our use of S30V. We really like the steel, and plan on future projects with it as well.

I've had two Kershaw S30V knives and there were no chipping problems. Of course, I have other S30V blades in my collection that also don't have any chipping issues. I had some very minor ones with my para, but nothing that couldn't happen with any steel.

To the best of my knowledge this is true about Kershaw. It could be that you are doing something correctly with regards to heat treating.

Deathshead. I asked Ken Onion about this once on his forum and he informed me that the Kershaw knives he designed have detent balls because it allows the blades to roll with less friction which allows the assisted opening to work smoother but they don't drill the hole in the blade for the ball to fall in when closed like a normal folder since the torsion spring has double duties and holds the blade down to resist opening as well as helps to open the blade.

How do you like that hideous looking nut and bolt sticking out of the side? Looks like it would rub on your hand.

Thanks Steve for the info. If I get my hands on one of these, I would really like to remove the AO spring if it will still stay closed without it. It seems like for the knife to work properly, the spring needs to stay installed.

Even though I'm an LEO, it's still hard for us to get the proper "tools" here in the Philippines, especially those that are recently released.

That being said, I got my hands on a ZT0301 and I only have one thing to say about it - FANTASTIC!!!!

I think it will be my EDC for a long time, and I agree with the other positive reviews of the ZT0301. It may be heavy for some, but the balance is right and the grip is exceptional. It just puts the blade where you want it and it's natural to hold in both saber and reverse grips.

For those wanting to get it, it's sure worth the look.

Welcome to Blade Forums Punisher. Glad to see a fellow Filipino here.

I have one myself coming in. Got a good price on it. $60 under retail.

So, what happens if I take out the spring?

With some AOs, taking out the spring is like taking out the ball detent. We should compile a list of knives that it disables the detent.

If you want an okay solution, just tighten up the torx screw some. The AO won't be powerful enough to get it all the way withot some wrist flick in there.

I had a Chive that I de-assisted. Took out the spring, used a dremel diamond bit and drilled a hole for the detente ball to sit in. If you've used your knife some, you'll see the arc of the ball rubbing on the tang. Just drill a small round indent at the beginning on the arc and you're good to go. And, sorry, I don't have pictures, and the knife is now with a buddy of mine who loved it and didn't mind the softish steel.

yea, if you take out the spring the blade won't be held closed. it all depends on how tight you screw the pivot in-- if it's too tight the blade will stay put, but it'll be a pain to open the knife. and if it's too loose, well, the blade is gonna be all willy nilly. if you find the *right* spot, there won't be a problem. i took my AO out and the knife hasn't opened accidentally yet.

as far as the bolt sticking out on the left side, it's not too obtrusive. it doesn't gouge my hand or anything-- i don't even notice it really.

i understand the bolt is fugly, but.. it's very convenient for adjustments.

Just a quick update-

Been carrying and using both my newly acquired ZT 0301 and Strider GB for about a couple of months. The ZT really is a slicer, I don't use it as hard since I have the GB for that, however, I tried opening a section of dried bamboo that was lying around the house, and I can definitely say that it was an absolute pleasure not having to deal with the impact "backlash". The ZT handle really helps you in holding the knife solidly in the hand, and the solid, well-thought out design ensures that it stays there in a variety of grips.

The blade is so big, and the recurve design so effective, that I have no trouble cutting up materials, and I did do some fine cutting with it on Christmas ham and it was just a pleasure to use.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

I have been carrying my zt0200 for about a week now and I very impressed with it. I got the combo edge and my first impression of the serrations was that they weren't terribly sharp. However after cutting up the UPS box the knife came in and using it at work cutting boxes, tape, and shrink wrap the serrations are definitely sharp. The straight edge on the knife was sharp enough to shave the hair on my arm right out of the box. I have really been impressed with the overall design and construction of this knife, Kershaw and Ken Onion did a fantastic job on this knife.

I have had the 302 now for about 2 weeks, its thee most impressive folder I have ever held in my paws, AO is awsome, blade is razor sharp, comfortable in my hand, very grippy with no hot spots.
The attention to detail is superb, no flaws that I can find at all, and its looks are amazing to boot, built like a tank. I could not be happier, and this blade will be and stay my EDC.

How do you like that hideous looking nut and bolt sticking out of the side? Looks like it would rub on your hand.

The nut doesnt rub your hand at all, its only visible on one side of the 0301, the pocket clip covering it on the opposite side, it in no way affects performance or ergonomics. I actually like the convenience of it.

I have 2 kershaw ZT's now, and several Striders in S30V and have not had any chipping problems. But then again I dont attack Patio steps, Cement blocks or concrete walls all that frequently.

Sonofagun, 3 days ago I was talking when I should have been paying attention and got bit bad by my 302, the thing is so damn sharp I didnt even know it, until I felt warmth running all over my arm, and a terrified (I just seen a ghost) look on my brother in laws face lol.
I hit the side of my thumb on the edge, cut it to the damn bone lol, lucky for me im good at butterfly stitching, my thumb looks like frankenstine at the moment but its healing just fine.

RAZOR SHARP lol........
