zero tolerance knives

With MAP, you won't find much variance at the low end of retail pricing. If you are looking for less expensive options, check the Exchange.

Yeah, aside from random 10% sales the price is the price. Great knives though as long as you buy what fits your needs rather than having a blanket expectation for the whole line.

Yes, for the most part, the Minimum Advertised Price Policy has eliminated any deals to be had anymore.

Am I the only one who is disappointed that our very own American-made knives, e.g. ZT and Benchmade, are the subjects of price fixing (MAP)? Flies in the face of good, old-fashioned retail competition!

We could vote with our wallets to change their minds?
It's capitalism. We don't have to buy their stuff if we don't like the prices.
Only bad for the dealer who would like to give a bit of a discount to not lose out on a customer.

Well Id rather have it this way than how it was when ZT first came out. When they first came out there were strict rules and I think for a brief period you had to pay MSRP for everything. Which led me to find single dealer in canada who wasnt going with the program. Ill pay MAP all day long. MSRP? nope.

Try usamade blades the prices are all the same but they have anodized versions of most for the same price and they ship them free 2nd day

Yup, ZT enforces map like crazy. But, if it happens to be a model that is labeled as "discontinued", map is not enforced. Such as the 0300, 0560/0561, etc. Sometimes you can find some great prices on "new" old stock. But as others have said, keep an eye on the exchange. Many of the higher priced production knives are purchased as a "grail" knife, and used very little, if at all, then sold when no longer wanted or money is needed. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a lightly used (or unused), "used" knife at a great price.

Other than that, you'll probably find a current model ZT at a local big box outdoor retailer at the same price as one online. I noticed my local Sportsman's Warehouse just price their ZT's right at map.

I agree 100%... unfortunately we don't live in good old fashioned retail times anymore. The internet has completely destroyed that. Heaven forbid a retailer be judged on the level of service they provide and how they help a community versus their ability to cut themselves off at the knees with products they keep in stock to compete against some goof ball drop-shipper who carries no stock and just sells everything just above cost direct from the wholesaler.

MAP still allows over-the-counter or phone price negotiation doesn't it?

I've always felt the purpose of MAP is just to keep the illusion that these makers' knives are more expensive, thus 'better,' etc., than others they might advertise at good ol' capitalist dealer discount/pricing options.

Really cheap shot by the manufacturers who usually receive half the retail MAP or less for their knives to the dealer.

The new mandatory pricing structure gives us an even playing field, we don't have to play pricing games anymore. I know it isn't as much fun for the buyers in some cases, and at first I thought it wasn't a good idea, but I have to say it has been good for me as a dealer and I think it has helped other dealers as well. I try hard to offer very good customer service by hand picking ZT knives for customers, free fast shipping and quality packaging , so that your items don't get damaged in transit. It has taken away a lot of the shady sellers on evil bay and some on Amazon that were really lowballing and taking away business from those of us that actually care about knives and our customers. I think in the long run you guys are better off using legitimate dealers that you know and trust. Please know that we appreciate your support, not just me but all the reputable dealers here on the forum, that support the forum and care about the product and how we ship it. For all of you that continue to support us, the dealers here on BF, I think you.

^^^Kershawguy is my online go-to for ZT/Kershaw. I have nothing but positive things to say about Dave! Stellar service and great selection.

Just buy em' used..bought a ZT 0452 for $185 shipped that was basically Brand New In the Box a couple of months ago..paid what I wanted to pay for it..not what ZT THINKS:barf::rolleyes:I should pay for it..haven't bought a new BM or ZT since they went to MAP pricing and have no plans too..

Now the Limited Editions are a whole other ball of wax..ZT charges MSRP for those and sales all of them..

several established groups sell at Gun and Knife shows in the Southeast. One such works the Dixie gun works shows and the shows in Greenville NC, Jacksonville NC, areas. Massive selection, at very competitive pricing. I could name, but will not because they do not support this site, several "SHOW" sellers as well as shops in the Carolinas. I have never paid MSRP or MAP for any knife. The key I think is being willing to turn and walk away, 40 years of collecting and thousands of knifes, later, I still get what I want, when I want it as I bet most do. The Exchange is flush with ZT and BM knives. Another great source is to look at sites located near Or. and Wa. states. And not a bad ideal to find a friend on this site who lives out there. IMO BM and ZT flood the market with too many models and this hurts the retailer who has to carry inventory. Wait a month and you will be looking at retailers who are holding old stock, and I have yet to see one that would let me walk out for 20-30 $. I am sure stores exist that this is not the case, but It is how it works here in the Carolinas. All said, the Exchange here is the best tool in the knife market.
