zero tolerance quality

I have more than a dozen Kershaws (US & Asia), and really like them. But once I tried my first ZT I was hooked. Now have a bunch of them, and not been disappointed with a single one. Every one of my examples have been perfect in fit and finish and now fast becoming a fan boy. Go for it, you'll love it.

kershaws lineup has been completely devastated and mostly replaced with chinese budget knives. they discontinued all their best stuff. the cyclones, the boas, the tyrades, the spec bumps, offset, the steven seagal, etc..... the only kershaw i currently really like is the the rake, that knife is a pretty sweet deal. the higher quality stuff seems to be done by ZT instead now.

I suggest you check out the Knockout, the Piston, the Camber, the Link, the Dash, the Ruby and the 3 Launch models.

i have a knockout and piston, and they are decent knives, i just feel kershaws lineup from a few years back was way better.

Yeah, and the ZT lineup was pretty staid. You also have to remember the market from a few years back is also way different. The 50-125 price point is almost dead. People who want cheap knives don't want to spend over $50 and people who want nice knives want to spend $175+.

This is a very good point, the same thing happens with firearms. I am a 1911 fan and I remember a time when I would have never spent $3500 on a handgun.

The departure of Ken Onion and the rise of ZT coupled with increased offshore production really hurt the Kershaw brand. Luckily you can still find a lot of the great classics still in production.

When you have a base brand and a high end brand, it doesn't make sense for the base brand to get high end premium priced products.

Volkswagen constantly wonders why people don't buy the Phaeton when it's priced like an Audi.

Why are all the nice RWD Nissans overseas sold as Infinitis here?

Why do people constantly think that super high end Corvettes should be their own brand or even Cadillacs?

I don't get any of those analogies, we're talking about tools here. ZT's rise caters to a buyer that is more of a collector. It has blown up and has a fan base now. Kershaw had really nice high end pieces, the ZT brand coexisted with a few models. Something had to give. I don't recall what models such as the Tyrade, Mini Cyclone in Ti & ZDP and some of the high end Bumps cost, but they weren't cheap. On subject, ZT quality is in line with other top companies.

I have a good experience with ZT
I have 0350s, 0801BLK and 0550... And I am waiting for a 0562cf
So far so good, I have a very good trust in the brand for robust overbuilt knives
I had the opportunity to handle and to play with a standard 0562 and it was amazing, very difficult to wait for my own since ;)

I have experience with spyderco, BM and I trust ZT more for hard use knives
Please note that u like spyderco and BM a lot but IMHO they are not on the same level for overbuilt knives, at least based on my (non-expert) experience.
But as a counterpart they weight more ....
