Zero Tolerance questions

The ZT03XX series all have titanium on one side and G-10 on the other, if that makes a difference to you.

ya thanks to all who replied!

I'd say pick out a ZT model that you like, and have a professional knife sharpener put some serrations into it. Lookup VEFF serrations for more info.

The 0550(S35VN) - manual folder is one of my favorites - great size for medium/large hands.

The 030X(S30V) - assisted folder is a beast, heavy duty all the way.

The 0350(S30V) - assisted folder is what could be coined as an "entry level" ZT.

The 0200(154CM) - manual folder is a great blade and can come with serrations.

The 0560(ELMAX) - manual folder is more or less ZT's current benchmark.

There are more than a handful of others available, but these come to mind. The newer models will also of course apply... I just have no experience with them. 0566 / 801.

Same material on both sides 0801. Re profiled a bit it is a great knife. Russ

Off topic, but do the Zero Tolerance knives have plastic washers? I saw a post and I was curious.

At the moment I have 7 ZT folders and all of mine have either bronze washers or use the KVT bearing system. Did someone claim that a certain model used Teflon washers? There are some great folders out there that do use Teflon but thus far I haven't seen any used on my ZT's. The models have are the 0300, 0301, 0200, 0550 Gen II, 0560, 0600 and 0777M390.

most ZT knives that have a standard pivot actually have Phosphor bronze washers in the pivot. The knives with the KVT bearing system use Metal bearings in a plastic captive washer so that if you need to disassemble the knife they dont go spilling out onto the ground. It also limits the amount of bearings needed for each knife lowering costs.

That's exactly what I've seen on all ZT's as well, I believe that even the KVT bearings rest against phosphor bronze washers rather than the scales themselves...at least on the videos I've seen of knives being dissembled that use the KVT system. They're all very well made and overbuilt to say the least.

Theres no bronze washers in the KVT pivots in the 560 or 801 the bearings are directly between the blade tang and the liner/frame.

Hey, thanks guys. I really appreciate everyone help answer my question. The reason I asked was because I saw a post where someone said some ZTs have plastic washers and it discouraged me from buying any of the knives. But, as always, you guys on here pull through with some info and intel! Thanks guys!

Yep you are absolutely correct KVT or (ZTV!) uses only the captured bearings. All other models in the ZT line use Phosphur bronze washers.

It must have been one of the 0777 versions that uses a washer on the scale side with the KVT pivot...I assume that is so that the bearing isn't rolling against the carbon fiber. I wasn't saying that they use bronze washers between the blade and the KVT bearings.

Regardless, too the OP, I haven't seen a ZT yet that uses anything other than bronze washers or the KVT bearing system.

It is rumored that ZT will be doing serrated versions of Elmax blades (check BladeHQ) such as the 0561BLKST.

BladeHQ has had several ZT folders listed which may never see the light of day: 0551BLK, 0561ST, 0561BLKST, 0561BLK and 0560TS. I think the Tiger Stripe (TS) would be interesting.

I did see the 0350BW (BlackWashed) as coming soon but with the picture of 0300BW! They could BlackWash the blade but what about the black G10?!

Both 0560BLK and 0550 are slow sellers and heavily discounted below MAP.

Why people are so against nylon bushing in a knife?

I don't think it is so much that people are against them as it is people are more for the metal washers. Teflon is very smooth and needs very little lube if any. There is also a washer made from nylatron that is stiffer, and harder than teflon. I know that Kit Carson favored teflon washers in his iconic Model 4. I've also read that people like the metal washers because they take care of any minute vertical play a knife might have. Btw, when I say metal I am talking about phospher/bronze washers. I do know that once a knife with p/b washers is "worn in" that blade will glide as if on teflon due to the self-lubricating nature of p/b washers.

I don't favor teflon washers as I tend to favor a tight pivot and it can deform teflon.

This has always confused me. I have a few customs that have Nylatron washers. They are incredibly smooth. Molybdenum disulfide lubricant powder in a nylon base is a good thing.
