ZT 0150 is made of s30v , i read so many good reviews of how great it is, edge holding and tough, but the tip and even the edge is very soft, softer than an 440b i played with . You guys have the same problem with s30v? needs to be sharpen too often

What were you using the tip for? Isn't the ZT150 designed as a boot dagger?

in wood is decent but i just loosen up a screw from my laptop and it was damaged, i had to finish it again with a sharpening stone

Hmm. Well a boot dagger isn't supposed to be used as a screwdriver.

Maybe this is the cause of your troubles?

well boot knife is supposed to sting, to perforate through things, so this s30v should perforate only soft things like butter, rags and tissue? why they say is military grade then? in the field you use it in many purposes. i just joined the army and besides this zt 1050 i will get a HOGFSH in satin and the new Rodent Rucki

Let me get this straight. You tried to use the knife to perform a task -- loosening a screw -- that you should have used a screwdriver, Victorinox, etc. for. And on the basis of this, you concluded that S30V is a poor steel that "needs to be sharpen [sic] too often" because you had to touch it up after damaging the edge doing something the knife wasn't designed for? Wow.

Oh buddy...

Screwdriver for screws. Knife to cut.

Ancient knowledge I pass on to you.

You should not use a knife for any task other than cutting. Attempting to use a knife for tasks other than cutting will not only damage your knife but is also potentially dangerous. Even if you don't care for your knives and your safety, shouldn't you use the right tools to work on something as expensive as a laptop?

I'd have some choice words for you, angi, but if I wrote them out I'd probably get banned from these forums.

A boot knife is not a field knife....If you want a field knife, then buy a Buck...
Also, using a knife for a task other than intended, is out right stupid. You could hurt yourself, or break the thing.
I'm sure some Craftsman ScrewDrivers are calling your name at the moment, you might want to answer the call.

Omg why dont you guys just ban me from the forums? For loosen up a screw with my knife because i didnt want to go in the garage after a screwdriver? All i was stating was that i though s30v steel is a little more tough than a 440B. Jeez!

Nobody can stop you from doing whatever stupid stuff you want with your knives. What's getting the negative reaction is the fact that you started a thread about it pretending that the problem is with the knife/materials rather than with its user's lack of common sense.

We here on the forums take knife safety and the proper use of knives very seriously. Using knives for tasks other than cutting such as prying, screw-driving, digging etc. are generally frowned upon. Match the tool to the task it was designed for.

yikes! knife as a screwdriver?

you could email KAI about it if you arent happy. maybe they could inspect it and see if the heat treat is off.

Wouldn't you rather be safe and take three minutes to get up, go out to the garage, grab the screw driver, come back, and fix the Lap-Top.... Than deciding to use a knife to fix it instead, and possibly injuring yourself? I mean really, do you have ANY common sense? Do whatever you feel is right, but I still feel your action was pretty dumb.

Glad somebody brought this up. I've been wondering: which is better for skinning deer, the Snap-on or the Craftsman?

I've found that typically the Snap-on offers a thinner edge which allows it to slice better. The Craftsman is thicker, which increases it's toughness and edge holding ability, but produces rougher cuts and requires more effort.

A flathead screwdriver is always recommended for cutting over the phillips head variant.
