Hey everyone, happened to have all the versions of the Zillas next to me today (-LE) so I went ahead and took some pics to give ya'll an idea of the differences. Such massive hunks of steel they are. Have yet to use a zilla, so I cant voice an opinion on how they function. My experience with Kuhks are minimal so its probably best for my limbs that way. One things for certain, they sure do make me feel tough when I hold em :p:D:thumbup:

In a rush but if I can get any sort of comparison pics just let me know and Ill see what I can do. Not much a camera man but Ill do my bestest.

For those unaware, the satin with black handle slabs is the test team original zilla, the tanker coated one is the zilla 2 CG and the orange black one is a proto 1 of 5 or 6.

Now for the eye candy, enjoy

Nice

The TT is still my favorite by far, I couldn't put down the ones they had at KC.

Oh, Eric, my offer still stands for that SHSHII ;)

Thanks for the comparison shots Eric. Is that Orange one the proto from Blade 2011? Any difference to the TT besides it being coated?

Sweet pix Eric, thanks for sharing!

Which of the Zilla's do you feel is the most comfortable. the TTKZ or KZII?

Great pics!!!
I think that the KZ 2 blade on the Proto handle would be the cats meow (or the HOGS oink!?)!!!!!

in yo dreams sucka! Might let you play with her one of these days though.

Yep, that be the one. What, ya don't have multiples? As for diffs, the proto has a slightly shorter handle, blades starts out a little less wide then the tt I think. Need to get some measurements later, I'll report back.

Being that I've never used them, can't say for sure but judging by just handling them I wanna say I like the overall feel of the zilla 2 best. I'm really aching to try em out.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Eric,
Outstanding pics Bro. Good to see the three together cause it sure shows the difference in them!!! Nice SHSH by the way...

Thanks man, they wouldnt of been possible without you. As for the shsh, umm yeah, its, da bomb!!!! I feel very fortunate to call it mine.

Nice E, very nice

I really like the pumpkin KZ and NMFBM. When SHTF, those are the two I would grab!

Awesome trio of zilla's you've got there Eric, that TTZ is just soooo sweet. Nice score on the SHSH in Infi too how thick is she. That's a great heavy duty midsize knife for the outdoors don't you think.:thumbup:
Have a great weekend brother now go chop up something. :D

Many thanks Eric for posting those comparison pic's ... the new proto CG interests me a lot

I have used the TTKZ, the KZII and a Nuclear TTKZ a great deal and if I can use one of your pic's I can give my impressions for those who have made enquiries as to how they perform ...

IMG_7306.jpg

The TTKZ on the right came first with a superb handle design and the only issue people had was the thickness of the convex grind behind the edge ... the convex curve was a little too thick ... it needed to be thinned down to an appleseed shape created by having a shallower flatter area behind the edge to assist in it biting deeper when chopping ... if re-done on a belt sander this version then chopped like a demon ... it is the heaviest version and has plenty of weight to enable it to bite deep. It also has great balance ... nicely blade heavy to assist in chopping.

The KZII on the left improved the grind ... more of a "flat grind" from behind the edge then where you would have a thicker "sabre" grind this was rounded in to make the best shape of an "appleseed" convex shape. The issue on using this was then the handle ... it has shallow low spots and is a very gradual taper in thickness to the front and rear ... in essence you would need "huge" hands to make this grip feel " locked in " ... in use your hand would either slide if taking the grip on the central palm swell or you would move forward or rearward to make use of the swell at the front or rear to "anchor" your grip ... forward decreased the chopping ability and felt akward ... rear meant the high spine pommel got in the way ... there were a few sharp grip edges there too ... I ended up re-grinding the rear pommel shape to something similar to the TTKZ grip ... this helped enormously ... but the length of the grip was still too long for me ... you needed a grip like the TTKZ which has thick swells at the front and rear to give you a central " locked in " feel to the grip which greatly assists in long term use and comfort when chopping ... essentially it avoids your hand sliding and is safer and enables more power to be applied ... so the KZII for me was not as good a design as the TTKZ ...as altering the grind on the TTKZ gave "excellent" performance ... but altering the KZII grips meant it was "better" than before but I still could'nt get a "long use" comfortable chopping grip ...

Now we have the new "proto" and whilst I have'nt used it ... you can see it is the best of both worlds ...

The grind is flatter and more "appleseed" which will enable it to bite deepest of any grind I have tried ... and I have used them all ... and the handle is slightly shorter giving it an obvious " locked in " grip for safety ... it will assist many who sometimes find a khukri can twist in the grip when chopping ... or those who feel that the heavy swings on impact can loosen the grip ... it also enables some width to be taken out in the appleseed grinding whilst cutting back the larger counter weight effect of the handle size so the weight forward balance will still resemble the heavier TTKZ ...

These new proto's are therefore looking to be "ideal" to me ...

Peter,

Very nice write up. Thanks you very much for your as usual insightful post in regards to functionality of such awesome knives. Im closer to using the orange one now, dang you :D:thumbup:

:D:D:D ... now don't go and try to make me feel guilty ... :D:D:D

But if you do use it ... remember to take plenty of "pic's" and let us know how it does
