Hey guys and gals*:-)*Wanted to show off my new Esee Avispa knife, and tell you about some mods. First off, this is a great knife, but, after having it for a while, when you started opening it, you could feel the metal grinding in the pivot area and it would catch and not open smoothly. Now this thing has bronze phosphorus bushings (washers) that sit on both sides of the knife blade along the pivot to reduce friction but that's not good enough. So I got the bright idea of making some liners to go on both sides of each of these bushings so there is no metal on metal action. Guess what I used? That's right, a Ziploc bag*:-)*After taking the knife apart, I cut 4 liners out of a single piece of the Ziploc bag to the same size as the bushings, (pretty hard to actually do) put them in there and put the knife back together. Now the openening action is smooooth*:-)*The great thing is the Ziploc plastic is actually very strong and isn't affected by water or heat from friction. They are also smooth and thin enough to use four instead of the two liners that come on a lot of knives. It's awesome if I do say so myself*:-)*

The other things I did to it were put some camo designs on the polycarbonate handle scale with a simple black permanent Sharpie. And then I made a simple but cool snake knot lanyard for it with a two strand diamond knot at the end out of 325 paracord.*

A couple of notes; it's kind of hard to make the camo with the Sharpie look good because of the divots in yhe handle scale. Just if you do this, keep turning the knife as you apply the camo pattern and look at it from different angles in the light so you can get all the divots properly covered. Also you may have noticed I don't use the lanyard hole for the lanyard. I carry this knife tip down on my right hand side and I've found that uf you make your lanyard with a loop on the end, it's actually better to just slide the loop up under the clip. That way it gives you something that's easy to grab and get your knife out of your pocket. It also makes it easy to arrange so that it's out of your way when you are cutting something. Also if for some reason you want it completely out of the way, you can just slide it off from under the clip*:-)

Anyway, long post but I really wanted to let people know about the Ziploc liners idea I had because it works brilliantly*:-)*Have a good day!*

Interesting mods. I'm curious to hear how the bushings last over time. Keep us posted!

I've been using them for about a week now and they are still doing as good as when I installed them. I am curious too although I really think just from playing around and testing different stresses on the Ziplock bag that they will hold up very well. But yeah I'll post an update in a couple of months or so :-)
