Ziplock omelet...it's a bad idea

That's nothing. I know of a mental institution that puts hydrohydroxic acid in the food and drink that they give to patients. If the patients are not given hydrohydroxic acid for more than a few days -- they can die.

I LOL'd :D

The "BPA thing"

Every university that tested was able to replicate the results. Experiments paid for by makers and larger users of plastics containing BPA - such as the Chinese makers of baby bottles -- were [of course] unable to replicate the results.

The scientific results did not reveal a risk for adults who were not creating, and would not be creating, offspring or who did not subject the plastics to very hot water and dish-washer detergents. The risk was the release of a mutagen that causes nasty birth defects when the plastics in question were exposed to very hot water and strong detergents, both of which are typical in home dishwashers. I threw away nothing (and still have all our aluminum cooking utensils).

What the habitually paranoid did with the science is hardly the fault of the scientists, who were quite clear on the risk that they found and documented over and over.

As a backpacker, I always carry a mountaineering cook kit. Pot, two bowls, and utensils that all fit together in a package that is really quite convenient. Much easier than worrying about cooking things in a bag. But, hey, to each his own. I wouldn't worry about the health risks unless one is doing it all the time. Health risks from paper bag cooking are probably less than half of the other things we do on a daily basis.

It would all depend on how hungry I was and what I had to cook with. I've even (gasp) made some super delicious egg nog with unpasteurized cream and raw eggs.

I'm not saying don't. I've done and do things I shouldn't and probably will.

I will say that I got sick off of an egg sandwich once (mind you it was cooked) and it was one of the most awful days of my life. I went to the ER that night and the IV fluids felt like the most awesome thing you could imagine. Not a fun day. :(
