Does anybody know about Zoeller Forge? I have been trying to contact him but get no response. I don't know if he is still in business or maybe on vacation. If you know or deal with him can you let me know his status.

Or maybe suggest an alternative?

Thanks

I think that I kinda took over his spot in the market. I'm not sure exactly what happened to Larry. Maybe someone else will know.

His site is full of good info, and helped me get started. However, thanks to advice from this forum, I eschewed his ideas of using wool and instead use insulating firerbricks. Wool forges should be lined with refractory mortar before using them. One of my forges can be safely used the day you receive it.

How can I speak to you directly. I am starting from zero, both equipment and knowledge wise, to forge. I am looking for advice and more.

This is a great forum for information, arguably the best there is. Spend several days reading through the stickies, then watch all the youtube links, then I'll gladly sell you a forge. I prefer to have informed customers as opposed to a fool's money. An informed customer has a possibility of being happy and spreading good word of mouth about my product. A fool rarely does.

Been doing that for a few weeks now. I was ready to order parts and start building from Larry. I want to discuss the size requirements I need and make sure I order the right one. I can't PM on here but maybe you can give me some contact info. Thanks

If you're wanting to build a forge, give Wayne a call at Hightemptools.com. He can hook you up with the parts. As for figuring size requirements, 400 BTU per cubic inch is the number from Abana. For me, that's 30k for an Atlas mini forge, or 100k for an 8" forge like the Graham. The burners can be found on my website, or Wayne's website. Our burners are very different designs, but both will work in a forge.

Sorry, I'm not willing to give out my relatively spam-free e-mail address on a public forum. Any non-sales related questions can be asked here, where a variety of people will gladly answer.

I understand about the email. My only concern was about not needing the rear opening. I only do short blades, razors. If there is a comment or question section on the ordering page I will go ahead and order and take my chances. I like the looks of your mini forge and feel it's the right one for me. Thanks for your help.

Actually, my conclusion is that the forge operates better with the rear opening than without it.

I hope your name is Jerry, because he just ordered my last forge in stock. I'm awaiting more laser cut parts, and should have them back by next week.

Sorry

That's me!!! I wondered about the air flow with the open end. You answered my question. Can't wait to "forge" ahead.

That's me!!!

^ Lol, that made me laugh :)

Looks like all of you questions have been answered, but I figured I'd just add that about 2 years ago I sent Larry a few emails trying to order from him, and didn't get a reply until 2 moths later, which was after I had already placed my order from hightemptools. That time frame was right after they had announced that they had re-opened from their buisness being on delay for quite a while due to health problems. So who knows, he may end up replying to sometime.

Charles ( Atlas Forge) is a good chap, and makes a good starter forge that allows new knifemakers to get started more affordably. Many well established smiths keep one of his forges in the shop for smaller work and portable needs.

He took what was an old "how to get started" idea...the two-brick forge....and created a robust and portable forge for everyone. Then he started studying burners, chamber size, efficiency, etc. and has continually improved his forges. From what I hear, you can literally open the box, connect a propane tank, and be forging in an hour. One really nice recent improvement is the sliding bar/tong rest.

If and when the time comes for building larger and more complex forges, High Temp Tools and Refractory carries everything you will ever need.

Thanks for the confirmation, I got the feeling he was a good man by the communications. I am a newbie to forging so I will be asking questions and let all of you experienced guys stretch your advice giving to the max. I have been reading the stickies and watching videos. Soon I will upgrade my membership so I can post pictures of my work. I really enjoy this forum, it's very helpful.

I just contacted Larry Friday and he replied right away. Everything is normal there as far I'm aware of.

Does anyone know of any videos of the atlas mini forge being used? I'd really like to see some.

I've been trying to get hold of Larry for over 2 months with emails and phone calls...... Phone just rings and rings..... Any ideas?
