I ordered this knife a while back and it's been on backorder so I haven't received it yet. My question is what is the grind on this blade? Is it a swedge grind?

Judging by the picture, It is a hollow ground blade with a swedge.

It's a flat grind.

This is the best pic I have of the grind.

"with obviously a swedge"

A very dull, worthless swedge that doesnt even go down to the knife tip.

So...since I needed a knife and not a shovel but otherwise loved this knife I had Tom Krein re-profile it by removing the swedge stock from top tip of the swedge(above the 0301 blade marking) all the way down to the tip.

A small amount of useless metal was removed and now the blade has a more useful point.

Note* - the blade thickness was hardly affected as the thickest part is well below the swedge line...and it remains.

Do you have a picture of that?
I sold my 0300 because of the recurve but I would like a Krein modified one.

The 0300 I bought wasn't sharp out of the box at all. Sent it off and had Richard J. paper wheel sharpen it and it's now shaving sharp.

Thank god the swedge doesn't go to the tip. I cant stand when they do that. I am not a fan of the swedge at all. The only thing it does is weaken the tip. If you are looking for a real slicer then look elsewhere and not the ZT. I bought the 0301 cause it's a beast of a folder not a slicer.

I'll work on getting that pic...

I like a pointy tip and I figured if ANY knife could spare some metal out front and still be strong...it was this ZT.

I went back and forth on removing the recurve but finally settled on leaving it. It's something that makes this knife what it is and it really improves its cutting power.

Thanks for the replies. I asked the question incorrectly. I was trying to determine if the swedge went all the way to the tip & I can now see that it doesn't. How do you like the 0300 series? I'm surprised to hear that the knife was dull out of the box. I bought the knife for it's rugged design as I didn't expect it to be a fine slicer.

I got my 0301 NIB for less than the current MAP prices out there.

I like it, but if I had to pay MAP, I'd probably have passed on it. Definitely a sturdy (and heavy) folder. Good ergonomics, but the textured scales will chew up pockets.

That...and more importantly for me...the weight...was why I got a custom Lifters Leather belt pouch built for it.

I'll get some pics up soon of the entire rig...

The fit and finish on mine is not up to par with other Kershaws I have owned in the past. The jimping on the scales is uneven and slack as hell. Just get a Strider SMF if you can. They weigh half as much and way more comfortable to hold and carry. Plus full flat gring cuts better

Uneven jimping on the scales? I don't see that at all.

I think they have fit and finish as good as any Kershaw. Made in the same factory, so they should.

I always thought that the hole in the lockbar was a manufacturing defect (thought about sending my knife in), but the pictures in the thread have disproved that notion.

Though I do feel like buying another in a different color and swapping the scales.

I know it should have the same F&F as any Kershaw, but MINE doesn't. And yes I know they are all made by KAI

I just got my 302 a few days ago. Shaving sharp (way sharper than a friends 200 that came at the same time) and perfect jimping. I'm very happy with mine.
