ZT 0301 or ZT 0551

Well since you cant have the 551 right now i say 301 as I have the 302 and love the thing. I will own a 550 though and it should be a great knife also.

I second your thoughts. I love my 301 and carry it from time to time when I want a big folder. I am also on the pre-order list of a 551 ( elmax ) and cant wait. Looks like it should be awsome for all !!

I use the sharpmaker with 40 degree setting for everything from my cheaper Buck Knives to my CRK and XM-18's. The only time I use the 30 degree settings is for fillet and kitchen knives.... I did find out last week that my Dozier folding hunter likes the 30 degree setting as well. The Dozier is by far the sharpest knife I have ever held. Its scapel sharp.

With the ZT 0301 not good too use a wet stone? But the sharpmaker would be the best way too keep it sharp?

You can use a wet stone with the ZT 0301. I use a Fallkniven DC4 and keep mine shaving sharp with no problems whatsoever.

I have the ZT 0301 and love it. Fantastic folder for real world heavy use.

I am on the preorder list for the ZT 0551 and am pretty sure I'm gonna love it too. Both are good strong designs.

If you want a heavy folder with a recurve blade, then go with the ZT0301. If you desire something lighter, which also does not have a recurve, then get the ZT0551.

Since I can't stand recurves, I'll take the 0551 any day over the 0301..

I'd have to actually hold the 0551 in hand before I can make a decision like that. I can't put all the eggs in one basket after only seeing some pictures of a knife.

I really like my 0300 but I will buy a 551, also. I can't seem to get a Hinderer from Rick before sometime in 2011.

I really like the grips on the Spec Bump, ZT0200 and ZT0100. I have all of them and wouldn't trade them for anything in that size/price class.

Anything will do to keep it sharp. I reprofiled mine with a 20 deg back bevel using a diamond stone and a 15 deg microbevel.

Since I can't stand recurves, I'll take the 0551 any day over the 0301..

I am not for or against recurves, per se. I am just curious, why do you dislike them so?

I'm on pre order for a 0551. And it will be my first zt knife. I don't care for recurve Blades ether I don't like the way it feels wen I cut with one.

I have a ZT 0301 and it's an excellent knife. However, the 0551 uses Elmax steel, which some see as what S30V should have been(tougher, easier to sharpen). Aside from that, I expect all differences to be fairly subtle.

I'm really stoked for the 0551. I'd go with that one, hands down.
